Review- Sugarwater Ranch – Stephanie Berget

Sean O’Connell’s life is perfect, or it was until his partying lifestyle affected his bull riding. Now he’s ended the season too broke to leave the Northwest for the warm southern rodeos. When a wild night with his buddies gets out of hand, he wakes up naked, staring into the angry eyes of a strange woman. His infallible O’Connell charm gets him nowhere with the dark-haired beauty. It’s obvious she’s not his usual good-time girl, so why can’t he forget her?

Bar-manager Catherine Silvera finds a waterlogged, unconscious cowboy freezing to death in front of the Sugarwater Bar. She saves his life–then runs faster than a jackrabbit with a coyote on its tail. Any man who makes his living rodeoing is bad news, especially if he thinks partying is part of the competition. He’s everything she doesn’t want in a man, so why can’t she shake her attraction to the rugged cowboy?

Tamara’s Review
I will give Sugarwater Ranch a 3 1/2, the sad thing is, in my opinion it had the potential to be a 4/5. I loved the main characters, the Cat and her family, Junior and Uncle Ray were awesome. Sean was a hard character to like in the beginning, a real bad boy and not in a good way. He is a drunk and a reprobate who has alienated his family, but he grows on you as the story progresses.Junior was the highlight of Sugarwater Ranch for me, I just loved his simple sweetness.
What I didn’t like about Sugarwater Ranch was the over obvious “bad guy”. From the first page that he is introduced I knew he was trouble. It completely drew me out of the story. Cat says he makes her feel “creepy” and then befriends him. Why would she do that? I just felt the she and he uncle both acted out of character where Elmer was concerned and I knew what was going to happen long before I should have.
In all, if you can overlook the author’s heavy hand in this one sub-plot, the rest of Sugarwater Ranch was wonderful.
Stephanie did a great job of weaving Cat and Sean’s history into the plot, making the reader understand the “why” behind the choices they have made in their lives. I enjoyed watching Sean “grow up” and come into his own, finally realizing that he was his own worst enemy and turning his life around.
I will definitely keep Stephanie on my watch list to see what she can deliver in the future.

Kim’s Review
I love anything with cowboys in it. This was a sweet love story that showed how life comes full circle at times. Catherine and Sean had met when they were younger and ended up falling in love. It was full of twists and turns that I didn’t expect. I feel in love with Junior, who was a sweet, gentle soul that rounded out the story nicely. I am hoping that it is a series because it would be nice to get together with the characters again. Very pleasant read!
