TALIA FINAL_BookCoverTalia
by Christy King

Blurb:
Teenage queen, Talia, struggles with her own self-destructive ways, while trying to be a compassionate and fair ruler in a land of magic, werewolves, and vampires. Within her, lies a darkness—one that will endanger the very people of her kingdom. In an attempt to protect them, she makes a pact with the vampires in a bid for peace. In the end, the trust she offers may be the very thing that leads to her own demise.

Excerpt:
“Your mother entrusted me to take care of you,” Holt said, while she washed her to hurry things along. “And that’s what I’ll do. But you won’t be running around the kingdom like some common scrub, you hear me?”

Talia offered only silence.

“Well, you’d better remember it,” Holt muttered. “You’re the royal heir and you’d better start acting like one.”

Finishing up the bath, Holt took a brush to her hair, pulling at tangles in anger. But Talia refused to cry and did her best not to flinch or make faces. Once she was in a new sleeping gown, Holt tucked her into bed and put out all but one lantern as she went through the door that connected their rooms. There was no goodnight or kiss on the cheek, and although there had never been, Talia kept expecting it.

The moon shone through her window; she turned her head to look at it. The most exciting day had turned into the worst. She had met a vampire who seemed to know who she was. How had he known that she needed to go home? A shadow passed the window and she thought she saw the flash of a pale face. Pulling the covers up to her chin, she shivered in the dark and stared at the window for a long time. Somehow she fell asleep to nightmares of vampires, werewolves, and blood– lots of blood.
