Author Interview

Beverly and Tamara: Welcome to SSLY. Thanks so much for joining us today. So first why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
Thanks for having me today, ladies! Ok, about me. I’m married to my college sweetheart, and am a stay-at-home mom. I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in writing and so being at home gives me the perfect opportunity to explore this path. Right now I’m having an excellent time telling my stories and delving into my imaginary medieval world.
Tamara: What do you HAVE to have when you are writing?
My computer. It has all the documents that I need (ie. character descriptions, plot outlines etc) to stay on track with my writing.
Beverly: When did you start to write and who influenced you?
I started writing stories in my teens and was most influenced by older works by Johanna Lindsay, Julie Garwood and Judith McNaught.
Tamara: What do you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”?
In my opinion, the hero has to be bad-ass on the exterior but at the same time, he needs to be a nice guy on the inside. It definitely doesn’t hurt if he’s also sexy, good looking and has a hot body 🙂
Beverly: Can you describe your favorite character? And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters?
My favorite character is Gareth from Fallen Knight, the third book of the Knights of Honor Trilogy. Gareth is a good knight, trained in the art of war, and from young, has maintained the high standards set by the chivalric code of honor. However his life is drastically altered when his brother is murdered, and his world, which was black and white, becomes shades of grey. Although Gareth wallows in his despair, he’s able to rise out of it. I admire real and fictional characters that are able to overcome physical and/or mental obstacles, so this might explain why Gareth is my favorite character.
As to how I came up with this character? Well Gareth played minor parts in books 1 and 2 so his personality was already established in those books. When it came time to write his story, I only had to flush out his other characteristics.

Tamara: What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense? Sex? Dialogue? And why?
The hardest scenes for me to write are the sex scenes. The act itself is pretty basic, but it takes a lot of work to get the scene right. And while I don’t write explicit descriptions, my goal is to always make the scenes sensual and true to the characters.

Beverly: What is your favorite scene in your favorite book?
A favorite scene is when Gareth and Clarisse (in Fallen Knight) make a connection in the castle garden. While they understand each other, they don’t realize that they’re in love.
Tamara: What is your dream vacation?
Man! My ultimate dream vacation is going to Tahiti and staying in one of those water hotels.
Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? Or would like to? What? We are all about the love! Fine! If you don’t like that question what was your worst date ever?
Lol ok, I’ll tell you about my worst date. I was invited to a boring house party by a guy. This was our first date and I didn’t know anyone at the party. When he dropped me off at home, I couldn’t get out of his car fast enough.
Tamara: What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why?
I like the damsel in distress variety just because this type of heroine is common in medieval romance. Unfortunately it would’ve been very rare for a woman of that time period to display kick-ass qualities.
Beverly: How many books have you published? What genres? What drew you to that genre?
So far I have 5 titles published in the medieval romance genre. Since I discovered historical romances in high school, I’m drawn to the danger and excitement of this era.
Tamara: If you could spend the day with any person from history, real or fictional. Who would you choose and why?
William Marshal. He was touted as history’s greatest knight. He had a rough start to life but managed to rise above it all. I think if I got a chance to observe him for an entire day, I’ll get first hand understanding of what makes a great warrior.

Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”?
Definitely food. I indulge in food porn quite a bit lol
My goal is to become a prolific writer. So far I’m still trying to figure out that secret.
Beverly: What was your most embarrassing moment or the craziest thing you’ve done? C’mon dish!
I went skydiving the day after I got married.

Tamara: What song are you?
“Am I Wrong” by Nico and Vincz

Beverly: How do you know you’re in love? Is it a physical reaction, an emotional reaction or both?

I’d have to say both physical and emotional. I think you have to connect on both levels to know that you’re in love.
