I’ve always wanted to do a project with an old treadle sewing machine. So now I am! This is as far as I’ve gotten. The weather hit in the high 50’s low 60’s so I took advantage and primed the cast iron treadle base. It will be a dark mustard color when I’m done.

I would be further along, but we had three days of rain and even though today was sunnyish, it was only 30 degrees. You just can’t paint in that kind of weather!

Beautiful, isn’t it? And the foot pedal and wheel still work. A great fidget toy for me.

I’m still trying to figure out what to do with the curved part you see below. It was attached to the back of the sewing cabinet. I’m planning on just a top and that part wings out to go all the way to the ground once I set the legs back the proper way.

The top below is 2 foot by 3 foot. I’ve got it stained and one side is polyurethaned but turned out really rough. I’ve got to sand it down. The side you see below is the side that only has stain on it. It’s smooth as a baby’s bottom. But not the side I want to use because of the lines faded into the wood. Once I sand the other side down, I’ll try to seal it again. If it still is rough, I’ll use this side. Once the table is done, I’ll be using it to hold my embroidery machine and a rough top will snag the fabric.

I’m going to use it temporarily as a desk, though. I’ve got a desk coming from my parents. I sold the other one I had to my daughter. She installed it in my granddaughters play room for her to store all of her art project materials and a place for her to do homework when she gets older. My granddaughter loves it. It was too small for me once I started using it.
And my daughter gave me what I paid for it so I could afford the materials for a new desk. Retirement can get a little tight for money, lol. Especially when I pour everything into the house renovations.
I have been writing again. Not as much as I planned, but words are beginning to flow.
I have come to realize I’m not as much of an introvert as I thought. I basically wilted with little to no human contact this past year. I’m sure I’m not the only one, but my imagination kind of retreated and I couldn’t put anything down in the computer as much as I wanted to. But in February I flew to visit family in Arizona and the other night we went to the movies. Just that little bit seemed to help.
I miss going out to eat. I know restaurants have limited seating but I mainly enjoyed people watching! Limited just doesn’t cut it, lol. But our county just dropped covid restrictions so I have hope again!
If I didn’t catch anything at Walmart I find it hard to believe I’d have caught something from my local mom and pop store. But you never know. With vaccines and herd immunity hopefully life will soon be back to normal.
And with better weather I can finish my project!
