Deep Enough to Bleed Blog Tour – Meet Brendan
If you’re a fan of blue collar men, Brendan is your guy. He’s a technical school graduate who performs quality assurance on architectural concrete pieces. It’s a good job in suburban Chicago and he earns a decent salary. He’s good looking, but not the type to be too wrapped up in body image. In reflecting about my leading men (even in my gay romances), I don’t tend to make everyone drop-dead gorgeous. There’s only so much sugar one can take! So, Brendan has a slender build, beautiful hazel eyes and a winning smile.
But I like his heart so much more.
As Brendan and Jolene get to know each other, Jolene drops breadcrumbs of information about her past. She’s always looking to protect her privacy just in case Brendan bolts. And she’s constantly surprised when he doesn’t head for the hills, especially after he follows her home from work one day and surprises her. Jolene doesn’t take that well at all.
What keeps Brendan coming back for more?
He sees Jolene in the here and now. He knows where and how she lives and works. She’s attractive and fresh in ways many women he’s met aren’t. So, when Jolene starts divulging her dark past with increasing detail, most often he feels compassion. Does that mean he’s a fool? Not at all. Jolene is a virgin so it’s not like she’s wowing him so much with her sexual prowess that he doesn’t give a rat’s butt about anything but getting laid. He has concerns about dating someone with her kind of baggage. There are things she does that trip his trigger and frustrate him.
He doesn’t know why.
That’s Jolene’s big secret hiding back there. It takes something pretty powerful for her to come clean. You’ll have to read the story to find out what Brendan does and how that escalates their relationship to a new level.
I hope you’re intrigued enough to read:
Deep Enough to Bleed, by Margie Church
Orphaned on the brink of adulthood, Jolene must make decisions for herself and her younger, disabled brother, Adam. Decisions as painful as the blows they suffered at their father’s hands. Cutting herself is the only thing making Jolene feel something besides misery and worthlessness.
Jolene has never dated, yet quickly recognizes Brendan is a great guy. She wants a serious and intimate relationship, but is scared to trust him with the truth. Will he think she’s a freak if he learns of her secret compulsion? Will hearing about the horrible events from her past make him run?
Contest: What do you think of a man like Brendan? Is he for real or just plain blind? One lucky commenter will win Deep Enough to Bleed.
