Lucy Richards is tired of being timid around men. Hoping to overcome her fears and feel like a real woman, she turns to Madame Eve to find a man who will fulfill that goal. Eve arranges a one-night stand with a handsome Shawnee shaman who will teach Lucy to use her womanly power and take her to unimaginable heights.

Shape shifter Seth Crowe is a Keeper of the Spiritual Law who carries souls from darkness to light, and enjoys using his body to accomplish his magic.

Tucked away in the Castillo Poconos Resort, Seth helps Lucy find spiritual and sexual freedom, never dreaming he might find his own mate in the bargain.

Excerpt:
“I am a man who is yours tonight, Lucy.” He walked toward her with arms out from his sides, exposing his nudity. “Draw on the power within you. Look at me. Overcome your apprehension of men. Have I not shown you gentleness?”
She nodded and approached him while tugging the strap of her sundress.
“Keep your dress on. Take it off when you are ready. This night is about you. Explore my body, learn from it, and take whatever you want. You are in control.”
He led her to the center of the blanket and faced her. She stood still with her fingertips resting on his waist. Cupping her face, he lost himself in her eyes.
“I am your instrument to use tonight. Open yourself up and delve into this opportunity I offer. I am yours to command. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
“I think so.” She considered his offer. “What do I do?”
“Follow your feminine intuition.” He couldn’t hold back a chuckle. “Touch me, tickle me, beat me, kiss me, bite me, lick me, suck me…whatever you want. Take whatever you need from me to strengthen you.”
In the moonlight, an endearing, innocent blush spread across her face. Amazing how a woman who lived her life in fear caused by abuse could be so naive of her own sensual power. If she knew her potential, she could bring him to his knees.

Beverly and Tamara: Welcome to SSLY. Thanks so much for joining us today Mary.

Beverly: *reading excerpt, fanning self* Oh, please let me…

Tamara: *elbows Beverly* What do you HAVE to have when you are writing?

CHOCOLATE!!! Sometimes a glass of wine as well. I think chocolate wine was created just for me.
Beverly: That stuff is delicious! *pours three glasses* When did you start to write, who influenced you?

Oh, that’s a story! When I was 16 my bff & I spent the summer with friends of my parents. Mr & Mrs. Godfrey. He was a poet and she was a teacher. During times when we were “bored” they encouraged us to make up stories about the people we saw around us. We had fun and got pretty good doing it. One day we went to London (this was the prime punk years) and we saw the hottest teen punk EVER!!! He said something to us that we couldn’t understand, smiled and gave us a jaunty salute as he got off the train. We wrote a huge story in our bedroom that night of an American girl falling in love with a British punk. Fast forward to 1999, dearest hubby gave me a gift of a 1980’s music collection on CD. One of the songs brought back some wonderful memories and after some searching I found the original story we wrote. I called my bff (who was now an editor) and told her my ideas of changing our little tale. She said, “Run with it.” And I did. In May 2008, the novel Painted Soul published and was followed by two others as well as all my novelettes.

Tamara: What do you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”?

He has to be HOT. Strong in character but with a weakness to make him real. I love dark secrets lurking about and hidden fears. He needs to appreciate chocolate, especially when dripping on his lady then licking it off. Did I say he has to be hot?

Beverly: Can you describe your favorite character? And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters?

It’s hard to say if I have a favorite. It’s like choosing a favorite child; like my kids each character has a part of me in them. They all have a sensual, spiritual and artist side to them. My characters usually come alive from photos I see. For instance, after writing Crow Magic, my editor sent a photo of a yummy Native American saying we should have put him on the cover of CM. I said no, he looked more like a hawk or an eagle. Then BAM… three more characters appeared. Yes, readers will see them in books already under progress for the Decadent 1 Night Stand series.

Tamara: What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense? Sex? Dialogue? And why?

I think the hardest scenes to write are sex scenes. Each character has his/her ways of kissing, touching, making love. Just like each boy or girl you’ve ever been with has never been the same. I try to give each character his/her own “thing” for each book. The sexual relations between characters in one book will be different in another book. I made one fella into voyeurism, while another was into Karma Sutra, one touches more while another talks too much.

Yes, I purchase books sex, BDSM, positions, spirituality, etc. I love it when I’ve been writing too long hubby interrupts me and he’s holding a book asking if I’d like to take a break to do some research.

Beverly: What is your favorite scene in your favorite book?

Oh that’s easy. My characters in Handcuffs & Silk were a Las Vegas cop and a New York Lawyer. I love it when my lady cop handcuffs him to the bed and says, “Anything you say, can and will be used against you for my pleasure.” I did my happy dance after writing it. Squeee!
However, I’m working on a follow up book to Crow Magic and I’ve been doing a couple happy dances. The characters are so witty. Sooo, we shall see.

Tamara: Who would you choose as your “book boyfriend/girlfriend”? From what book? Author?

That would be Vikar Sigurdsson from Kiss of Pride, Deadly Angels Book #1 by Sandra Hill. A Viking Vampire Angel…LOVE it! A hot guy in black leather with wings… oh you got me baby!

Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? Or would like to? What? We are all about the love! Well, maybe just a little bit of kink too! 😉

Hubby would be upset if I told too much. Handcuffs, whipping cream, and chocolate… need I say more?
*Yells to hubby, “Honey, run to the store and pick up some whipping cream!”

Tamara: What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why?

I don’t like the wimpy, “Send me a hero to save me & make my life complete.” OH, WAAAA! I appreciate a heroine who can be the kick-ass variety but has a weakness or something deeper she needs to be “saved” from. Maybe the hero is the only person who is sensitive to know what it really is and what she truly needs. In Handcuffs & Silk, she intimidated men and it took a special man to help her explore all the possibilities of making that work for her. In Crow Magic, because of her past she was afraid to release her inner goddess.

Beverly: oooh inner goddess. I like that. What was your worst date ever?

I was an art major in college and went out with a fellow artist. He told me he didn’t like girls who wore nail polish. I took myself and purple nails out of the movie theater. Never gave him the time of day again.

Tamara: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you? (You have food, water, shelter, all the necessities, so nothing mundane)

1. Not to sound mundane, I’d want my hubby with me. He was a scout master for years and can do a lot of things. Some he didn’t master in the scouts tho. Heh, heh.
2. Something magical item to give me unlimited supply of chocolate.
3. Edible suntan lotion. Is there such a thing?

Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”?

Chocolate martinis made with Godiva Chocolate. I reserve them for when I’m with friends at writer conventions. But let’s not mention the package of Hersey Dark Chocolate Chips hidden in my bathroom.

Tamara: *turns to Beverly* We so have to party err, go to a convention, with Mary! What dream or goals have you yet to realize?

I want to bump Nora Roberts out of the Best Seller list. No offense Nora – love you!

Beverly: Goals are good! 😀 What was your most embarrassing moment or the craziest thing you’ve done? C’mon dish!

I was on a date at Pizza Hut and excused myself to use the ladies room. This was back in the day when we wore poufy mini skirts and I had the cutest outfit. Anyways, after using the restroom and walking across the ENTIRE restaurant, I reached behind me to smooth out my skirt to find it had been stuck in my panties! I almost died!!!! At least I had nice panties on. LOL Moral of the story – don’t wear panties.

Beverly: *chokes and sprays out chocolate wine while laughing* Oops, sorry Mary!

Tamara: If you were a color what would you be and why?

Black is my favorite color. As a student of color theory I learned Black is the result of all colors. Much like how I am the result of my heritage, my environment, etc. Am I getting too deep? Ok… sterling silver looks amazing against black. Dark chocolate is sort of black.

Beverly: How do you know you’re in love?

Wow, now that’s heavy. Let’s see, I’ve been married for 22 years and still haven’t truly figured it out. LOL I’d describe the feeling like a warm fuzzy all over… like warm chocolate pouring down your spine. Yeah….

Tamara and Beverly: Okay. We are SSLY so we have to ask. Who loves you?

My mommy! She’s 85yrs old and my biggest fan! I wouldn’t be here in my life without her. Yes, hubby & the boys do… they love to drive me crazy. *Son #1 yells, “You were already crazy!” Gotta love the men in my life.

Now for some quick fun questions:

Boxers or briefs? Boxers, unless they are those black boxer briefs Jockey makes. They are soooo soft.
Coffee or Tea? Tea, the exception is coffee with a shot of Baileys.
Tall, dark and handsome or Blond and buff? Tall, dark and handsome. Oh, wait… hubby is blonde and buff, but I can’t see past his pilot uniform. Yummy!
Hairy chest or smooth? Smooth.
Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate. Vanilla is blah!
Kinky or Sweet? If I tie him up and pour chocolate sauce all over him, isn’t that both?
Fast or slow? Depends on if the kids are home.
Public or private? Private. But does doing it in the backyard hammock count?
Top or bottom? Depends if the silk scarves are available.

Thank you ladies for having me today. I think it’s time to enjoy something chocolaty and decadent. I’m pretty suave in the kitchen and I promise it will put smiles on your faces. Are you with me?

Tamara: You better believe it!
Beverly: I’ll grab the wine!
