I am Beverly Ovalle and I met Paula Millhouse through our shared publisher Boroughs Publishing Group. We gravitated together over our shared love of DRAGONS. So when she asked if I wanted to follow her and have a chain of dragons, I jumped at it. Convince three more authors to follow? Can we keep the dragons going? Sadly I think I am the speed bump in that road!
How can you not love dragons? I mean really…
Well that’s how Paula and I met and bonded, over scales and flame and wings in the sky!
Now a little bit about my writing process, sometimes messy, sometimes furious, but always eventful! I like to ‘nest’ when I write, maybe my dragon is showing through. Oops! Dragons are not real! *shifting my tail and settling deeper in my nest* Truly!
1) What am I working on?
Well that’s a broad category! I have multiple stories going! I can’t seem to stop myself.
I am furiously working on a second short to follow Lightning Strike called Willow’s Cry. Series name? If it comes down to it, Woodland Nymphs. But sadly it doesn’t have dragons! A storm tore apart the forest and a young willow tree was damaged beyond repair. Of course it was a weeping willow LOL!
I took a few days off of writing to edit my newest book A Saint’s Salvation coming out on February 24 and set up promotion dates. Amazingly enough this is not a paranormal romance. It is a contemporary military romance. If you check the coming soon pages here you will see the synopsis of my story.
I am also working on A Dragon’s Treasure. Yes that has dragons! A young woman runs, chased by men out to kill her and finds protection in a dragons arms. A dragon’s greatest treasure is his mate and Connie is his.
My BFF and I are working together on a book. We are calling it Windy City Dragons, at least that is the name of the series. Dragons lots of dragons! I got the idea from the Chicago Fire. It wasn’t really Mrs. O’Leary’s cow, but two wild young dragons messing around. I really want to finish it! Tamara and I have been passing it back and forth for a year. When one runs out of time or inspiration, the other one picks it up. It is great fun, but I tend to get a bit obsessive. When the mood strikes, I want to write! I already am antsy to write another one! This one is inspired by a song, The night Chicago died.
I am waiting until I have finished up and hopefully published all of these before I dare start this one!
I also have a NaNo novel I am working on. A dystopian dragon shifter tale. Oh yes, I can combine them! I was so immersed in this story that it was all I thought about. Have I lost that do or die from NaNo? A little but I’m planning on getting it back! I can feel the itch as I sit here typing this! It’s rough and needs work, but I kept going home wanting to read what happens next and then shook myself! I had to write it darn it!
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
Well, I’m pretty down to earth. Most shifter books don’t fall solidly into the erotic category. I can’t seem to help it. Down and Dirty! Check out my story Dragons’ Mate if you have any doubt. The settings of my stories are not exotic. They are places I’ve been or lived for the most part. I like my stories to seem like they are possible. Go one town over and Dragons are real. I think it lends a spot of realism to an otherwise paranormal world.
3) Why do I write what I do?
Goodness! I can’t help it. I write and sex pours from my fingertips! I love a paranormal world and want to share my imagination with anyone willing to peer inside.
4) How does my writing process work?
Inspiration hits and I start writing. I can’t write down a plot because it never turns out the way I’ve plotted. I write and let the story take me where it will. It has led me to erasing lots of words when I hit a brick wall. I learned from a seminar that if you get stumped, back up and try again. That advice has helped me get back on track quite a bit. Then I once again I let my characters talk to me.
Well, that’s my writing process. Lots of stray thoughts brought together and polished up to share with anyone willing to read them! Time for me to head back to my computer to write some more!
Now, check out some of my fellow writers. Their posts will follow next week February 3rd.
