Lisa Fox – Interview

Welcome Lisa FoxLF_logo_2

Beverly and Tamara: Welcome to SSLY. Thanks so much for joining us today. So first why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?

Thanks so much for having me over! I’m afraid I’m dreadfully boring. I’m just a simple girl from New York.

Tamara: What do you HAVE to have when you are writing? Coffee, cookies, gum, sunflower seeds

Beverly: When did you start to write, who influenced you? I’ve always written and I’ve always been a reader. Stephen King, Jackie Collins, Jack Kerouac, Sidney Sheldon, Margaret Atwood, Charles Bukowski – I could go on and on.

Tamara: What do you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”? A man who possesses a strong character and a sharp mind. Someone who’s adaptable, who’s willing to change, and yet has steadfast beliefs and principles. Also, killer six-pack abs and a wicked grin.

Beverly: Can you describe your favorite character? And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters? I honestly don’t know how I come up with my characters, but I do know that I love them all. It’s impossible to choose a favorite. Right now Dean Kirkwell from One Kiss is the most vivid in my mind because his book came out recently. He is very much the handsome boy-next-door, and a sweeter hero than I usually write. He’s got a lot of love to give.

Tamara: What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense? Sex? Dialogue? And why? Sex scenes are the most technically difficult for me. I can bang them out pretty well (lol!), but then having to edit them and find synonyms for ‘pulse’ and ‘heat’ and ‘throb’ and ‘thrust’ is a bit of a chore.

Beverly: What is your favorite scene in your favorite book? There are so many, but the one that comes to mind right now is the scene when Hunter S. Thompson enters Circus Circus in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It was a scene – sans the ether of course – that I wanted to experience myself and Circus Circus was my number one stop on my first trip to Vegas years ago.

Tamara: Who would you choose as your “book boyfriend/girlfriend”? From what book? Author? Wow, that’s a tough choice. I think I might go with Joscelin Verreuil from Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel’s Legacy series.

Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? Or would like to? What? We are all about the love! It’s so hard to know what people consider ‘kinky’ nowadays. So much has become mainstream. When I was younger – much, much younger – I got to go to the legendary Hellfire Club in NYC with a friend who was a professional dominatrix. I doubt that even qualifies as kinky any longer though.

Tamara: What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why? Ass-kicking heroine all the way! Damsels in distress put me in a book-throwing mood.

Beverly: What was your worst date ever? I lived in New Orleans for a time, and one of my favorite bars was The Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone. They used to serve these awesome overstuffed olives in their martinis which were beyond yummy. Sadly though, no amount of yummy makes up for the moment when my date one terrible night plucked the olive out of my glass when it arrived, turned to me with a grin, and said, “Open wide baby, Daddy’s got a treat for you.”
Right then I decided it was officially time for me to go.

Tamara: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you? (You have food, water, shelter, all the necessities, so nothing mundane) Hugh Jackman, Dean & Deluca Manhattan Blend Coffee, and a few thousand crates of quality champagne

Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”? I don’t feel guilty about any kind of pleasure.

Tamara: What dream or goals have you yet to realize? Getting on the New York Times Best Seller list. I may actually swoon if that ever happens.

Beverly: What was your most embarrassing moment or the craziest thing you’ve done? C’mon dish! Probably the craziest thing I have ever done was buying a one-way ticket to New Orleans – a city I had never seen, nor knew anyone who lived there – packing two suitcases, taking my life savings of $1,000, and leaving New York City three days later. I was twenty-one years old.

Tamara: If you were a color what would you be and why? I would be technicolor! Because it’s funky and weird and kind of awesome.

Beverly: How do you know you’re in love? There aren’t words wonderful enough to describe that feeling.

Tamara and Beverly: Okay. We are SSLY so we have to ask. Who loves you? I am very blessed with spectacular friends and family.

One Kiss Lisa Fox
Blurb:
Sometimes one kiss can change everything.
New Year’s Eve is supposed to be a night for celebration and new beginnings. For best friends Kat and Dean, it is a nightmare filled with disastrous dates and enraged ex-girlfriends!
Lucky for them, they’ve got each other to help laugh off the embarrassing, and downright inappropriate, moments. But then midnight rolls around and neither of them have anyone to kiss…
There’s no doubt this is a night they will always remember.
The real question is whether it will be a night they want to forget…
