Beverly and Tamara: Welcome to SSLY. Thanks so much for joining us today. So first why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
Not much to tell. I’m just a plain Jane housewife who turns into an erotic paranormal writer who types using lots of tongue in cheek humor when given a keyboard and a blank screen.
Tamara: What do you HAVE to have when you are writing?
Quiet! Lol. When I’m really in the writing zone, I don’t like any distractions, not even music anymore.
Beverly: When did you start to write?
I started writing in early 2009 after my husband dared me to. To my surprise, I found it enjoyable and then exhilarating as I discovered people enjoyed what I had to say.
Tamara: What do you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”?
A hero can have a host of qualities, some good, some bad, but the most important one I think is a loyalty and love for those he considers family and friends. In my world, he can cuss, or pound bad guys, even says the most obnoxious things, but so long as he stands by those he cares about, then that makes him a hero.
Beverly: Can you describe your favorite character? And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters?
Lucifer is awesome. He’s never technically had his own book, but the stories he appears in, he tends to take over, usually with comical result. You’ll see him in action in my Princess of Hell series as well as Welcome to Hell. As for how I come up with my characters? No idea. All I know is when they start shouting in my mind, they don’t shut up until I’ve told their tale.
Tamara: What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense? Sex? Dialogue? And why?
Sex! Lol. After more than 50 books, keeping those scenes fresh and engaging, not to mention emotionally involved can be daunting. And when it comes to threesomes or moresomes, keeping track of bodyparts can get tricky lol.
Beverly: What writer, if any, influenced how you write?
I don’t think any one writer influences me. I know when I read something good, I’ll admire the technique and the emotions they evoke. Like with Darynda Jones, I love her humorous inner dialogue for the heroine. With Kresley Cole, she has an ability to create larger than life alphas that just work. While Thea Harrison and Illona Andrews have wicked world building skills.
Tamara: Who would you choose as your “book boyfriend”? From what book? Author?
Ethan from Delicate Freakn’ Flower. He’s a big, teddy bear, but don’t ever rile him up. Or if I’m in the mood for a feline, Ryker from Wickedest Witch. He’s a crude bad ass but hot, oh so very hot. And my all time favorite alpha, Thea Harrison’s Drago. He’s drool worthy.
Tamara: Oh I love Drago!
Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? Or would like to? What? We are all about the love!
Yeah, we’re not going there. Hubby would kill me lol! Suffice it to say, despite what I write, I’m pretty vanilla in the bedroom, but the occasional toy or lotion can be fun.
Tamara: What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why?
Depends on my mood. Sometimes, I want to see a woman getting saved, who’s not at all brave, kind of like me. Other times I want to snicker and giggle as a leather wearing, ass kicking bitch tells the hero in no uncertain terms what he can do with himself—even if it’s anatomically impossible.
Beverly: What was your worst date ever?
Lol, I never really went on them because most of the guys I dated were usually as poor as me, so we usually stuck to renting a movie and grabbing a pizza. But I do know my second date with hubby, I was mortified because I was wearing white jeans and Aunt Flo came for a visit. It’s a wonder he ever came back lol.
Tamara: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you? (you have food, water, shelter, all the necessities, so nothing mundane)
If we’re assuming I’ve got my hubby and kids with me then…My tablet with a solar charger and satellite internet access. A great big hammock, and my puppy, Georgia.
Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”?
Chips, especially with dip. (drool)
Tamara: What dream or goal have you yet to realize?
I would love to hit the New York Times or USA Today list. While I am a bestseller in my genres, those two elusive titles have danced just out of my reach. Wouldn’t it be awesome if I could hit it with a cyborg romance though? Lol. That would be so freaking funny.
Beverly: What was your most embarrassing moment?
See above on date with hubby lol.
Tamara: If you were a color what would you be and why?
Red. I’m not sure why, but I love the color red.
Beverly: Who has influenced how you perceive love? Why?
My hubby. He’s shown me that it’s not how I look on the outside (which is chubby, glasses and now braces wearing) but what’s on the inside that he adores.
Tamara and Beverly: Okay. We are SSLY so I have to ask. Who loves you?
My hubby! My kids. My dogs. Oh and of course my EveL Minions lol.
