EXCERPT

“Ms. Roberts, your testing is complete.”

That voice. Damn it, I knew that voice, but I didn’t want to come back. I wanted to stay with my mates. “My mates.” I hated the choking pain I heard in my own voice, but I couldn’t stop the protest. No one had ever touched me like that, made me feel like I was his, no their, world.

“All in good time, Ms. Roberts.” That matter-of-fact tone brought me fully back to reality, and I recognized the firm press of the testing chair beneath me. This place, it was like going to the dentist, a necessary evil. But this was no ordinary dentist’s chair. I was locked down, wrists, waist and ankles secured with padded buckles like I was some kind of dangerous criminal.

But then, sometimes the women in this chair were criminals. Just not me. I was a volunteer. I had nothing left on this rock called Earth. After I’d caught my ex-fiancé sleeping with my roommate, I’d dumped his ass and taken the new job at the observatory on the big island of Hawaii, thinking the stars I loved so much would distract me from what a low-life loser I’d almost married.

Instead, those small twinkling lights had called to me. I had been staring up at the stars for almost as long as I could remember, the obsession never leaving me, not even when I graduated after finishing my Masters and started my career in astronomy. Fifteen years ago, when I’d gotten my first telescope for my birthday, actually going out there hadn’t been an option. There was no space travel. No aliens. Nothing. We’d been alone in the universe.

But now? Now we humans knew the truth. Earth was one of almost three hundred planets being protected by the Interstellar Coalition Fleet. Without theCoalition, Earth would fall prey to the Hive, a scary-as-fuck race of freakish biosynthetic cyborgs that consumed new races and new planets to feed their never-ending need to expand. Grow. Conquer.

They reminded me of the Borg from Star Trek, but I kept that opinion to myself at the office. Hell, everywhere. Half of the people thought the whole thing was a hoax and conspiracy to convince humanity to send sacrificial lambs up into space for freakish alien breeding programs, or as expendable soldiers for nothing but suicide missions.

I didn’t believe the conspiracy theory websites. Not just because my mother was a NASA engineer and knew more about what was going on than most, but because there were a handful of warriors who’d come home after serving their two years. I’d made a point of tracking them down, reading their interviews, visiting as many as I could, as many as would talk to me. I wanted to know about the other worlds. What sort of animals roamed these unknown planets? What type of plants and terrain would I see? What did the aliens who populated those worlds look like? What did they eat? What were their customs? I wanted to know everything.

But all they ever talked about was war. PTSD on a massive scale. Whatever was out there, it was bad. Those who would talk to me—once I used my own university credentials to convince them I was not a fanatic or an all-around crazy person—talked of little but the battlefields, and the enemy.

As terrifying as the Hive sounded, I wanted to know everything. But I wanted to know how the other Coalition races lived, not just how they died. War was war. It sucked. But what were all those alien warriors fighting to protect?

Guess I’d find out, assuming the testing had worked. I sure as hell hoped it had. I was not small, which my ex had taken great pleasure in pointing out as often as possible. I was tall to start with, as tall as a lot of men, and yes—I was carrying a bit of extra weight. But I loved my body. The softness of my stomach, my extra-large breasts. Skinny girls didn’t get the goods, and I had them in spades. Boobs. Ass. Boom-baby. I didn’t want to go home, back to work, back to my normal life. I would never be the same again, not after this. Not after them. The two mates in the dream. They weren’t mine, but still. Wow.

Now I was addicted, needed two men, two cocks. Dirty talk and four hands and hard, hot fucking. Lots and lots of cum that would make me—

Shit.

“Ms. Roberts? Can you hear me?” She sounded impatient now, the woman I could sense looming over me. She wasn’t mean, just… efficient. I wanted to linger in that magical place, stuffed full of two hard cocks and more love than I’d ever felt in my entire…

“Erica, do you need a doctor?”

Damn. “No. I’m fine.” I opened my eyes and blinked, taking in the testing room. Sweat coated my skin, the orgasm that had been just a dream lingered, my skin warm, my nipples hard, my heart racing.

But was it all about the sex?

No, my mind would not let go of exactly what those warriors had promised to their mate. Cum. Seed. Baby.

On Earth, I couldn’t even find a man who wanted to have sex with me. Those who weren’t afraid of my height were freaked the fuck out by my…

“Erica, are you sure you’re all right?” Warden Egara asked, coming to stand before me. “You’re taking a bit longer than usual to come out of the testing phase.”

Testing phase? Was that what they called intense orgasms around here?

“Sorry, I just didn’t want to come back yet. It was just getting good.”

Excerpt

The crowd suddenly hushed and she stopped talking to focus on the scene unfolding

in front of her. The door to the newly arrived ship had opened, and a hot as hell male

walked through it. At first glance, he appeared almost human, with short, black hair and

a neatly trimmed beard. His skin was a shimmering silver, though, and he was taller

than most of the humans and Pheran present. Another male followed after the first, and

she had to bite her lip not to sigh in appreciation. The second male was a little taller and

broader than the first, and his skin had a golden sheen to it. His hair was long enough to

be tied back, but his beard was as closely cropped as his silver companions.

“They don’t look much like aliens.”

Zale grunted. “Maybe not to you.”

That was the moment both males unfurled their wings. Holy fraxx. They had wings! “I

take it back. Wings are definitely alien.”

I never forgot her. Not for one minute. Not from the last time I saw her, at seventeen, to today. I measured all women against her and all women came up short.
But being with her was unfeasible in high school, and it’s taboo now.
I see her sometimes, but I’ve never spoken to her. She runs, or I run. We’re in the same town, on the same block, in the same building, and the gulf between us is just too wide to cross.
Until tonight.

He was my high school crush, back when I lived in a world that didn’t want me. He was the perfect boy, and I was the outcast kid from the other side of town. And when he held my hand I thought I could fit in, just a little. I thought I could be his and he could be mine.
Then he left, and my life fell apart.
Now we are the king and queen of opposite sides of Hollywood. And we haven’t spoken a word to each other.
Until tonight.

For me, the name Dante conjured up two images. The first was the epic depictions of Hell from Dante’s Inferno, with people burning for their sins. The second image was a sexual depiction. I don’t know where it came from, but as far back as I can remember, I had always associated the name Dante with a beautiful and sexy man. I’d imagined a dark-haired, dark-eyed, gorgeous lothario, the type who could capture a woman’s heart with just one look. Dante was the Fabio of my generation, the heartthrob that got women’s hearts beating fast, made us want this man to rip our clothes off and to throw us onto the bed.

Little did I know that the Dante that walked into my life was very different from the one I’d imagined. Oh, he was dark-haired, dark-eyed, gorgeous, even a lothario … just … he wasn’t a man. Instead, he was someone who was going to send me to the Hell his namesake had written about.

And I was his teacher.

The Fabric of Reality by Benjamin Kelly

fabric of reality cover

Hearts 3

Alesia and Gil’s story is somewhat confusing, especially with the tech of Gil’s world, and comprehension of Windows and Doorways. However, if you’re just looking for a good story to pass the time, it’s a worthwhile option. Unfortunately, it leaves lots of unanswered questions, questions on the different realities, what it all means, and what the future holds.

Each world holds an awesome background story, but unfortunately, only a short snippet of circumstances are shared. I feel the book would have been improved upon greatly if more information was forthcoming about the realities, as well as the differences between us. This book contains an absolutely fabulous premise, but falls somewhat short in delivery.

Perhaps, if further books are forthcoming, going into more details, it would provide a more satisfactory telling. All that being said, if you are a sucker for sci-fi romance, and just read the tale between Alicia and Gil as is, it is a lovely tale of two individuals searching to free themselves from a deathly fate.

~Excerpt~

“Let’s go, Malock.” Jager raised his eyebrows. “Or did you change your mind?”

She stood and released a deep breath. Even with her trepidation, she refused to back out now. Melina waited for her. “No, I’m looking forward to seeing Airondelle for myself.”

Brook spun away and rushed to catch up with her comrades. If she revealed her plans, she’d be stopped before she could find her lover. She would have to hide Melina right under their noses to bring her home. She pushed her shoulders back. I can do this. I have to.

The all-terrain vehicles sat loaded with equipment for the mission in front of the swirling mass of the portal. Her father certainly wasn’t wasting any time getting a team back to Airondelle. Crewmembers already filled the first vehicle, so she hopped into the back of the second.

Jager passed around everyone’s mission directives then shoved in on her left. Thank goodness he was the last to load. With his bulk, he occupied both of the remaining seats.

Before she had time to read her personal orders, they proceeded into the portal. She passed through the spinning matter, her body pulled and stretched in every direction. Unknown forces pushed on her chest, making it difficult to breathe. She gripped the seat, hoping she wouldn’t get pulled out. But the awkwardness didn’t last long. The transporter room light years away, clean, fresh air poured into her lungs. The alien vegetation of the foreign planet lined the rough dirt road they traveled. She yearned to explore the flora and fauna on a more intimate level. And she would, after setting up camp.

She opened the folder with her mission directive inside. Instead of the stack of papers detailing what Planet Core expected of her, she found a single sheet.

Her father’s handwriting scrawled across the page. You can never know the truth.

Hard, cold steel pressed against her temple. A gun. Her breath caught. What the hell is going on? She grabbed her knapsack and launched out of the vehicle.

What is The Underground?
The Underground is a group of rebels who live underground. They are former Planet Core employees who left the corporation as they do not agree with their policies on many things. Their only way out is to join The Underground. Most of the members live under the city in an abandoned subway station. (The subway is no longer used anywhere, only the above ground glides now.) Children and one of their caretakers live in the safehouses, which are farther away from the city.
