Wicked Wild Wednesday- Interview – Sascha Illyvich

Beverly and Tamara: Welcome to SSLY. Thanks so much for joining us today. So first why don’t you tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a male romance author, been writing and published through a few houses over the last 14 years. I live in Oakland CA, am an avid cigar and wine enthusiast with a passion for bringing readers stories that tug on their hearts and other parts *koff*

Tamara: What do you HAVE to have when you are writing?

Music that moves me.

Beverly: When did you start to write?

When I could hold a pen. I’ve been writing for a long time but only did I decide to go into publishing after some convincing by a few very dear friends of mine.

Tamara: What do you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”?

He needs confidence above all else. Even if it’s false, as that’s how the heroine helps him grow, but ultimately a confident hero is one we all can relate to, and if we can’t relate, we at least can fantasize about it.

Beverly: Can you describe your favorite character? And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters?

I’d have to say my favorite characters are probably the ones where I pull deep from who I am as a person and throw all my deep seated hatred, all my self-loathing, all that pain and passion into a hero and pair him with an incredible heroine. Paula from an unreleased story (negotiating with Decadent at this time) or Livía from my upcoming (read, shopping for a publisher) paranormal romance ENDANGERED, both know what to do with damaged heroes. As for character creation, the process is pretty organic. It stems from music or fear, a lyric and it runs in my head with a plot bunny and then I’ve got a heroine who wants him, and vice versa.

Tamara: What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense? Sex? Dialogue? And why?

No scene is difficult for me to write, except the ones that I haven’t written yet.

Beverly: What writer, if any, influenced how you write?

Much as I’ve been sort of teasing her over the years, Laurel K. Hamilton has been a major influence. As of late, JR Ward’s heroes are so damaged, so fucked up and dark it’s inspired me as well.

Tamara: Who is you ideal woman, real or fictionary?

Bernadette Peters!

Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? Or would like to? What? We are all about the love!

You’re asking a Lifestyle Dominant about the kinkiest thing….let’s say it involved whips, floggers, cuffs, blood, and bedtime around 4 AM. Oh and the leather skirt I wore.

Tamara: Umm, that was your question Bev. I think I’ll just let it alone.

Tamara: What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why?

Heroine…I like a strong heroine with plenty of attitude and confidence. One who has the smarts to realize the hero’s problems in his head are just that, voices he needs to ignore. I like passionate heroines.

Beverly: What was your worst date ever?

I was younger…much younger and had a lot of self esteem issues. Met this woman online, gorgeous curvy redhead. Couldn’t handle my liquor (I know, stop laughing, I rarely drank I those days!) and after two glasses was pretty buzzed. We found a hotel close by and I learned then to tell when women were faking.

Tamara: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you? (you have food, water, shelter, all the necessities, so nothing mundane)

Does alcohol count as a necessity? How about cigars? Are redheaded women necessities?

Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”?

I’d have to say I’m seriously a sucker for romance novels, and I DO love the BLAZE series.

Tamara: What dream or goals have you yet to realize?

My desire to make 1 billion in a year via my books and author career. I have big dreams!

Beverly: I’ll second that dream! Okay, you’re a guy. What is the dumbest dare you’ve ever done?

Can’t say I have one. Every once in a while I tend to be smarter than I look!

Tamara: If you were a color what would you be and why?

Black. Or Silver. Silver probably. Black, because it’s metal. Silver because that shows the duality of my nature as both the white wolf, and the dark wolf prince.

Beverly: What is your dream car and why? What color? Me, I desperately want a Metropolitan Nash, hot pink and white. LOL! My own Barbie car!

BMW 7 series. Midnight blue. It’s a classic sign of status.

Okay, the following questions are from Beverly, the BDSM aficionado in our pairing:

How did you get interested in writing about BDSM?

Jesus, you’re not going to leave my sex life alone are you? LOL! Seriously, at the time BDSM was selling high in erotica and picking up some steam in romance. I wanted to write, wanted to sell ,and knew you needed to understand before you could write.

Have you ever been to a BDSM club?
What about that lifestyle interests you?

Variety and the human condition.

Would you say you were a Domme/Dom or a submissive?

I am an Alpha Dominant

Would you consider yourself a switch?

Yeah, years ago I did.

Tamara: What can we expect for you in 2013?

Longer stories, more passion, more twists, turns, bigger books that pull you in and bind you to the characters. Bound After Midnight is one of such stories. Three authors, writing paranormal erotic romance with kink tell tales of supernatural love along with healthy doses of kink.

Tamara and Beverly: Okay. We are SSLY so I have to ask. Who loves you?

You do!

Tamara: Haha, you wish Sascha.

Now for some quick fun questions:
Bikini’s or thong? Woman’s thong.
Coffee or Tea? Tea.
Blonde, brunette or red-head? Why choose?
Tits or ass? Hips.
Chocolate or Vanilla? Again, why choose?
Kinky or Sweet? Both.
Fast or slow? Fast, then slow.
Public or private? Done it in both. That one time behind NASA in Houston…
Top or bottom? I LOVE woman on top!

Tamara: Well damn Sascha, I don’t know if you’re indecisive or just greedy.

Beverly: I’d like to hear more about NASA…
