Beverly and Tamara: Welcome to SSLY. Thanks so much for joining us today. So first why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
Thanks so much for having me here today with you both Beverly and Tamara. Well my name is Jamallah Bergman. I was born in Jamaica Queens New York but mainly I was raised in the south and I reside in Atlanta Georgia with my teenage daughter. I have been known to act and be silly, which is something I’m proud to say I get from my mom lol, if you met her then you’d know exactly where I get my silliness from.
Tamara: What do you HAVE to have when you are writing?
I’ve got to have some tea, whether it’s sweet or hot, tea is a must for me and I have to have a cup of it next to me on my desk.
Beverly: When did you start to write?
Well I’ve always been writing something, from little skits we would play when I was a kid with my dolls up until now where I am now writing romance shorts and novels. I have to say my very first story where romance was involved in it, I wrote when I was about sixteen. I think during that time you have plenty of emotions going on which makes for a good story.
Tamara: What do you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”?
A man who not only is appealing to the eyes but also appealing to the heart of not only the reader but also to the heart of the heroine he will be involved with during the story. He shows her the love that either she has been missing all of her life because of the fact that maybe she has been hurt over a past relationship or has trust issues. I try to make out my hero to not be discriminating towards a woman because of how she may look. Most of my heroines are full figured women who have had problems in their past, like most women have in real life we have issues with trust with men and we usually get to the point where we put up a ‘wall of defense’ as I like to call it. That way we won’t end up getting ourselves hurt again if someone else comes our way. All in all, a hero has to be loving, caring and nurturing as well as patient too.
Beverly: Can you describe your favorite character? And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters?
I would have to say that my favorite character out of all of my books so far has to be from my latest book “The Admission”. His name is Rodrigo Coram and he’s not only handsome but he’s also sweet and understanding of Cathy, who is the heroine of my story. Rod, who he is also known as by his friends, is the type of man that I can honestly see myself with or if readers read the book for themselves can see him as being someone they can relate to as well as someone to swoon over because he has plenty of it.
As far as HOW I come up with the characters for my books, it all depends on the idea. Either I come up with the idea first or the characters will come to me. As of late, it’s been the characters coming to me first before anything. I can see them in a picture of a handsome man and when that happens then I can immediately picture who he could be compatible with as far as his girl.
Tamara: What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense? Sex? Dialogue? And why?
Well for me I have to say it’s a little bit of all of the above, it just depends on the story I am writing about. Usually it takes me a couple of times before I like what I see before me to continue on.
Beverly: What writer, if any, influenced how you write?
I honestly can’t pinpoint a particular writer that has influenced me.
Tamara: Who would you choose as your “book boyfriend”? From what book? Author?
Oh lord that would have to be Zsadist from J.R.Ward’s “Lover Awakened” book. Honestly I feel deep into him and his story from the beginning and honestly even though he is a tortured soul, I really can relate a lot to what he had to go through.
Tamara: You are not alone in that choice! Poor Zadist has more book girlfriends than any other character I know (except maybe for Christain Grey)
Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? Or would like to? What? We are all about the love!
LMAO….you honestly want me to go there huh! Well….I can say that I’ve always wanted to do a human sundae on a particular someone I know at this particular time (and for those that know me, no it’s not that person you might think, lmao)…it’s been a long time since I’ve done that and yeah I did go there ladies and gentleman, lmao.
Tamara: What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why?
I like all kinds of heroines from those who don’t take shit from anybody from those who are damsels in distress.
Beverly: What was your worst date ever?
Oh lord, the worst date I ever had (which honestly I have to say I’ve strike it out as not being a date at all) was with this guy who decided to ask me out on a date. Honestly it was my 1st date ever so I was pretty excited about it. He told me he was going to come and pick me up, we’d go out to get some Pizza which again, I thought great. Well what happened was the following:
He called me up and told me that he couldn’t get his mother’s car (since he didn’t have one) because they had gotten into an argument, so instead of him picking me up I had to pick him up and drive us both around. We got to the Pizza Hut to eat and after we ate, he didn’t have enough money to pay for the food. So yours truly had to pay for our dinner, even though he was supposed to have paid it. Then I had to stop off to get gas for the car. I gave him the money to pay the gas, which was about ten bucks, when I pumped the gas, instead of it being ten dollars, it only came up to about seven. He came out with one of those silk roses, I got mad at first cause of the gas but when I saw he had a rose, I thought ‘Oh how sweet’ and when we got inside the car I said to him, “Oh you got a rose for me?” he told me, “Oh no I got it for me” Yeah….I was pissed off completely. So as we headed on home, he told me he had to stop off at another gas station to get something…..well while he was inside, I drove off. Mind you, where we were living, we had to go out of town to go out to restaurants and going back into town was at least 15 miles. So yeah, I made him walk on home in the middle of the night along a dark road. He called me the next day angry as hell and of course I went off on him and told him what a fool I was for going out with him. So now you know why I basically can say that I have never ever been out on a date because I don’t count that one as a date.
Tamara: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you? (you have food, water, shelter, all the necessities, so nothing mundane)
Some chocolate, my books and alcohol. lol
Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”?
Pralines….I love pralines!
Tamara: What dream or goal have you yet to realize?
To find love with that someone special. I know what you’re thinking, yeah you write about romance and stuff but you don’t have any in your life, well no I don’t but if you knew my life and all that I’ve had to deal with, then you would totally understand how hard it is to find someone you can trust.
Beverly: What was your most embarrassing moment? It can’t be worse than mine….
Having the local television station come to your high school to finish taking pictures and filming you during school and band practice because you are part of a segment on teens who had plastic surgery and then having the principal, assistant principal along with two coaches and a secretary tell you when you are coming from band class, “Oh Jamallah, I didn’t know you had a breast reduction” and then the assistant principal saying, “Now Jamallah if I had known you had a breast reduction, I would have asked you to save me something for myself” WORSE MOMENT EVER!
Tamara: Oh man! That is awful. I can’t believe a teacher would say something like that to you! If you were a color what would you be and why?
Yellow….because I have a sunny disposition
Beverly: Who has influenced how you perceive love? Why?
Oh my, that’s kind of hard to say really, especially for me. Mainly because I can’t say actually WHO in my life now or in the past has influenced my ideas on love. I only follow my own heart and feelings and I’ve had to learn from my past mistakes. I think a lot of us have had problems with love and finding it as well as keeping it. I have to say that with me, it’s mainly trust and finding someone that I can trust and will love me for who I am.
Tamara and Beverly: Okay. We are SSLY so I have to ask. Who loves you?

All she ever wanted was her father’s love.
Cathy Sanderson tries her best to impress her father despite his resentment over her. She seemed to contemplate most days, “Why me? Why do you hate me so daddy?”
He’d belittle her about every little thing. The pain and anguish she felt as his only child had her day dreaming that one day he would treat her special.
Cathy loves her father and tries to make him proud of her, but everything she tried, never seemed to work.
Her shyness plays against her, and makes her a prisoner within her own mind.
She feels nothing in her nonexistent life could be made any better.
Until, she met him.
