Thank you very much for having me here, Beverly and Tamara! It’s a pleasure!
I wear many hats, as a mother, a wife, and an author. And besides writing, I also have a part-time job and have recently started taking yoga. While I don’t watch a lot of television now, there are some shows that I enjoy like Duck Dynasty, Highway Through Hell, Deadliest Catch, and a few others on the Discovery Channel. I’ve watched many years of Star Trek in my life, and I’m totally digging the new movies. If it’s a bit sci-fi, and a bit romance, I’ll likely watch it.
As for my writing, my stories range from sweet to sexy, and you may find hunky aliens and clones, or be transported to another planet. Most of my stories are science fiction romance, though I do have some contemporary as well.
Tamara: What do you HAVE to have when you are writing?
Gum. I chew a lot of gum. When I’m trying to concentrate on writing, I tend to grind my teeth. Chewing gum helps to prevent a sore jaw. I also write my first draft in a notebook with a blue or black click pen.
Beverly: When did you start to write, who influenced you?
All through school, I wrote many things from pretend lesson plans to my youth group’s newsletter. I even wrote a romance story called, It Starts With a Kiss. But I didn’t start to write seriously until I was on maternity leave with my second child. My oldest was getting frustrated as she learned to read, and I thought if I wrote her a book about a topic she enjoyed, she might want to read more. It worked as she now reads above grade level and in another language. And after that, I kept writing, my stories now geared for adults rather than children.
Tamara: What do you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”?
A hero must be strong physically and emotionally. But, he must also have a vulnerable side.
Beverly: Can you describe your favorite character? And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters?
My favorite character? Eek! That’s like picking my favorite child. I can’t. I won’t.
The ones that are always on my mind are those from the story I’m currently working on. And those whose story I still have to write. Katrina will always hold a special place in my heart, as she was my first character, and named by my daughter. Her story is being rewritten now, and I’m hoping to have the first in The Zurian Prophecy series out next year.
How do I come up with my characters? I usually meet them in my mind. They just appear, and won’t leave until I write their story. It’s very crowded in there right now. LOL
Tamara: What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense? Sex? Dialogue? And why?
I would have to say sex scenes. Not because they make me uncomfortable, but because it is difficult to vary the wording with each one.
Beverly: What is your favorite scene in your favorite book?
If we’re talking books by other authors, it’s when Wanda wakes up in her new body in The Host by Stephenie Meyer. I really am a sap, and if a book can make me cry when it reaches the resolution, it’s awesome in my opinion.
In my own books, it’s always the resolution, when the hero/heroine (or any other combination) finally come back together to live out their happily ever after.
Tamara: Who would you choose as your “book boyfriend/girlfriend”? From what book? Author?
I would have to say Three from Lucy In The Sky by Barbara Elsborg. Damaen from Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series comes in a close second. I have a thing for aliens. LOL
Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? Or would like to? What? We are all about the love!
Um, really? I have to reveal this to the world? I’m not going into detail, but it involves handcuffs, and the bag of “fun” toys my hubby and I have. That’s all the details you’re getting.
Tamara: What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why?
I like both. And it really depends on my own mood. I don’t like stupid damsels though. They should never put themselves into a situation where their instincts told them not to. But, sometimes we all need a little saving.
Beverly: What was your worst date ever?
I wouldn’t say I’ve ever had any horrible dates. Before I went to university, my friends kept trying to set me up with different guys. But, it was always a group thing. No pressure. And they never worked out. I don’t think they really knew my tastes. And one time, the guy didn’t even show up. But that was okay, because my husband-to-be joined us instead. We didn’t start dating then, but a few weeks later, we saw each other again. Then a couple weeks after that, he asked me on an official date. By ourselves. *grins*
Tamara: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you? (You have food, water, shelter, all the necessities, so nothing mundane)
As long as my family is also there with me, I would want a pen, a notebook (for writing), and my tablet that has all of my ebooks on it. Though once the battery went dead, it wouldn’t be of much use.
Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”?
My guilty pleasure is time to myself. This summer was crazy for my sanity, so now, I’m enjoying the days where both of my kids are at school, like today. 🙂
Tamara: What dream or goals have you yet to realize?
I would love to have my books on the NY bestseller lists, or for one of them to be made into a movie. I’d also love to have a big name author provide a blurb for one of my stories. But, right now, I’m striving to get my first novel rewritten and out into the world. Maybe that will be the one that helps me accomplish some of these dreams.
Beverly: What was your most embarrassing moment or the craziest thing you’ve done? C’mon dish!
I’m sure I have many, but I can’t think of any right now. It is very embarrassing when people ask how much of what I write is based on my own experiences. Of course, they’re always referring to the sex scenes. Depending on who the person is, I may answer, but to be honest, all of them have at least a tiny bit of my own experiences in them.
Tamara: If you were a color what would you be and why?
I’d be white, as it is the blending of all colors, each one representing a part of me.
Beverly: How do you know you’re in love?
Because I never want to be with anyone else. My husband makes me happy, and I love being with him.
Tamara and Beverly: Okay. We are SSLY so we have to ask. Who loves you?
My husband, my kids, my family. I hope my readers. LOL
Now for some quick fun questions:
Boxers or briefs? Boxer briefs. The best of both worlds. But not in white. LOL
Coffee or Tea? Tea. Cold is even better. 🙂
Tall, dark and handsome or Blond and buff? Blond and buff. That’s my hubby.
Hairy chest or smooth? I like a little hair, but not to the point where it looks like a shirt.
Chocolate or Vanilla? White chocolate.
Kinky or Sweet? I like both.
Fast or slow? Depends whether we’re at the beginning or the end. 😉
Public or private? Private.
Top or bottom? Top and bottom. In front and behind. I like all positions.
Thank you again for having me at SSLY!

Beth is always running from love, life and relationships and yet another disastrous break up finds her in a little village in Cornwall. She just wants to be left alone to enjoy the quiet country life and continue her work as a freelance artist.
Liam was young free and single, enjoying the sun, surf and sex life to be found living in Cornwall, until tragedy strikes his family and he is left on his own trying to keep the family farm going.
Two lost souls not wanting to be saved until fate and a little Cornish magic steps in.
Enjoy the following excerpt from Life For Rent-
Liam woke the next morning with Beth still fast asleep on top of him. To his dismay he was sporting a major hard on and cursed his anatomy under his breath. He tried to shift position to ease the tightness of his jeans, but Beth squirmed on top of him, which just made matters worse. “Shit!” He muttered as he took as sharp intake of breath.
He attempted to take his mind off the beautiful redhead draped over him, by going over what jobs he needed to get done that day….speak to Joe about the top field, call the farm supplies to order fertiliser….. Beth sighed in her sleep and her warm breath tickled his neck. Nope that wasn’t going to work.
He cringed at the thought of Beths reaction to waking up on top of him in his present condition, so tried counting in his head.
Beth groaned as she started to wake up, she didn’t remember her mattress being this uncomfortable, perhaps her duvet had got caught underneath her. She pushed up with her hands and wiggled her hips trying to dislodge the lump, and was startled by a small yelp by her ear. She opened one eye and found herself staring into those deep blue eyes of….. “Liam?” She gasped trying to push herself up further.
“Don’t move!” Growled Liam.
“Wh.. what? Why?” She asked opening both eyes.
As she focussed on Liam’s face she noticed that he seemed to be in pain, his face was contorted and his cheeks flushed.
He watched as she stared at him in confusion, and saw the flush creep up her cheeks as realisation dawned and leapt off him.
Groaning in pain he grabbed her hand before she could storm off. “Hey! Don’t get the wrong idea. I woke up like this, it doesn’t mean anything.”
She glared at him whilst trying to pull her hand out of his strong grip.
“Well that’s reassuring.” She snapped.
He took in her indignant scowl and made what could be a rash decision, but hey, he was damned whatever he did or said. Using his superior strength, he pulled her back on top of him a locked his lips on hers.
Self confessed hopeless romantic, still looking for my happy ever after. Until then I write about them instead. You can find me at http://emmieloukates.wordpress.com.
