From Me to You Friday ~ Beverly ~ Tidbits from an author’s mind

Well, as you can probably tell, I love to write and read. It’s because I love to read that I began to write. Sometimes, not all the time mind you, I read a book that I didn’t like the ending. Or I wanted to know what happened later. Or another character just cried to me for their own story.

I didn’t care who wrote it, I just wanted more!

My imagination would take me places, complete the stories I wanted. I can’t be alone in this or there wouldn’t be so many series out there. THANK GOODNESS! LOL.

It took little incentive to put pen to paper. Of course I’d toss them out later. It completed what I wanted.

But I’m not only a writer.

My first love has always been art, any type. I’ll go years with a medium and then one day, switch. I’ve done pastels, oil, watercolor, crayon 🙂 . I’ve played with clay, sketched with pencils, decoupage and wood carving.  I’m probably one of the few women that received a band saw for mother’s day and was thrilled!

Making something out of nothing has always fascinated me. I’ve done it my whole life. To me it’s like breathing. That doesn’t mean I’m any good at it! LOL. Decent, better than your average three year old, yes. Hanging in the Louvre? Probably not. It doesn’t have to be good. I get satisfaction just from the process much like a three year old. My parents will still oh and ah! Thanks mom & dad! They are often the recipients of my work, poor things.

Currently I am obsessed with beading and now that I’ve been doing it for three years, I’m actually doing quite well. I get complements on my jewelry when I wear it, so it’s all good! And it’s from people that don’t know I made it! Even better. Lately, though, I’ve been getting hooked on digital media. Since I’ve started writing I’ve found out that if I want my books to get seen, I have to advertise. Well, it’s kind of in my blood. My dad was a sign painter and both my brothers followed in his footsteps. My one brother still does it and my other brother now does fancy painting on vintage cars, adding just the right amount of ‘bling’ to make it stand out. Me, I used to sign paint too. But it was not my life choice so I wandered my own path, as you can see. Once I discovered how you can manipulate photos and colors and shapes and sizes online, I was hooked! I started doing my own teasers and using them to promote and use in my book trailers.

Here are a few teasers from my books.

Dragons’ Mate

DM teaser 5

Book trailer for Dragons’ Mate:
I did it myself so I hope you like it!

Lightning Strike

Remember, I do write erotic romance! It is not always PG-13

A Saint’s Salvation

My newest release (though not my last!)

Touched by the Sandman

It is currently doing a virtual tour with an awesome prize so find it. (It was just here on 7/30 so take a peek!)

Now, take a look at how I have used some of this in my trailers.

I even did one for all of my books:

I would probably have written more books if I didn’t play around with so many fascinating things. I’m even taking a month of Saturday’s to take a photoshop class at the local technical college. 🙂

I love when someone asks me if I’ve taken any college courses. I always reply yes, then list them:

Management (1 year)
Accounting (1 semester-I hated that class!)
Sign Language (2 years-I would have continued but it was discontinued at my school)
Gym (I failed it-don’t ask!)  Sounds good so far, right?

Sewing and pattern making (1 1/2 years)
Water Aerobics
Belly Dancing
Glass blowing
Soap making
Candle making
I signed up for upholstery but it keeps getting cancelled.
Now I’m going to a photoshop class.
They have basket weaving too. Hmm. One day, LOL.
I might even try the pole dancing class! I bet I can work that into a story!

So, my attention doesn’t stay in one place, but the world is too fascinating to be cooped up all day inside the house. Though, there are days that’s okay too!

I still sew, I have three machines and would kill to get one of those awesome embroidery ones! I used to sew all my work clothes and my children’s but they’ve grown up and no longer appreciate my sense of style LOL. But they love the blankets I make. Soft and huge and warm.

As you can see, I love a variety of things to do. I haven’t stopped writing though. I currently have a full length novel submitted I am waiting to hear back on. A dragon shifter novel! I hate waiting but sometimes there is no choice!

Stealing Hope:
(this is my pitch for it)

Ari and Hope ignite fires hotter than dragon flame. Their mating heat sparks a conflagration neither expected and Hope has to deal with her new reality as a dragoness.

I have also submitted a short erotic western that has just been accepted by Secret Cravings Publishing! It is tentatively scheduled for October 2014.

Triple D Dude Ranch: (not an approved blurb-just brainstorming!)

Blaire is a freelance photographer on assignment. She is heading home to Texas, armed with her camera to do a photo feature for the Tribune. Taking photos of the dude ranch, she gets an eyeful of an uninhibited cowboy through her lens. The summer heat of Texas has nothing on the heat he generates in her.

Dan was expecting a photographer but not the sexy urban cowgirl that arrived. He knew it was hot out, he just hadn’t expected the hot and sexy woman to make him burn the minute he caught sight of her. One look and he had to quench this fire inside.

One touch sparked a wildfire burning hotter than the Texas summer and just as hard to put out.

I asked for Beta Readers from my author page  and they loved it. I do that, so if you are interested, like my page . You never know what I’m up to!  My first attempt at a synopsis got the comments that it was way too tame for that book, LOL. I share tidbits and teasers from my upcoming works besides calls for help! I even used one of my followers names in Stealing Hope because I love it and it is so unusual. She did give me permission 🙂 . I asked.

Next week I plan on scheduling myself some writing time. I’d like to finish one if not two of the novellas I’m working on.

I’m still on tour with Touched by the Sandman, so stop by one of the spots. A complete list of where I was and will be for the next week is posted on my website, Happily Ever After One Book at a Time, on the Where to find Me tab.

Well, have a good weekend. Keep an eye out for our wonderful posts and I’ll let everyone know when my stories get published!
