Mesmerizing Mondays – Interview – Elzabeth M VeLay

Beverly and Tamara: Welcome to SSLY. Thanks so much for joining us today. So first why don’t you tell us a little about yourself.

Thank you for having me! About myself? Well, I live in Madrid, Spain but I’m Brazilian-American. I make up songs about washing the dishes. I talk to my dogs. I only have coffee with milk and sugar. I’m re-learning Portuguese. I chew on my pen caps. I prefer the cold winter to the suffocating heat of the summer. I like to bake. I rarely watch TV. I still watch cartoons. I love reading and writing, and making up stories as I go. I’m in love with love.

Tamara: What do you HAVE to have when you are writing?

Something to write with. *grin* Music is usually a constant companion when I’m writing or even just thinking up a plot. There have been some rare occasions in which it hasn’t played a role, but so far it’s a rare thing.

Beverly: When did you start to write?

I’ve been writing since I was a kid. When I was in lower school, we had to participate in the school’s Book Fair by making up a story and putting the book together ourselves, including drawing the covers and pasting them together. I started writing romance with the idea to publish my work back in 2008. I started out with sweet romances, but soon delved into hotter territory.

Tamara: What do you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”?

He has to make your heart skip a beat. He can be sexy, charming, handsome, alpha or beta, but he has to connect with the heroine and her needs. As a human, he might act one way or another, but his love for the heroine has to show.

Beverly: Can you describe your favorite character? And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters?

I can’t pick a favorite child, I mean, character! They’re all special in their own way. Though, usually the one I’m working with at the moment is the one stealing the show.
How do I come up with my characters? Ha! You’ll have to ask my Muse although I’m not sure she has a concrete answer for that. A lot of the time I’m just walking the dog or something when she introduces an image or a scene in my mind.

Tamara:What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense?Sex?Dialogue? And why?

It really depends on the story I’m working on. I’ve had sex scenes that have been a breeze to write and others which I’ve had to leave and come back to because they were sounding repetitive or awkward.
Action scenes have also been difficult, especially if I’ve included swords because making sure the feet and arms coordinate correctly can become confusing.

Beverly:What writer, if any, influenced how you write?

As an avid reader, every book has inspired me in one way or another, but I think that my greatest inspiration has been my mom; she’s never been published, so technically, she’s not a writer but she did and still does make up the most outrageous stories.

Tamara:Who would you choose as your “book boyfriend”? From what book? Author?

I can only have one book boyfriend? Oh, have mercy, I haven’t had coffee yet.

Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? Or would like to? What? We are all about the love!

Hey, I’m not one to judge. LOL. Kinkiest thing I’ve ever done? Well, I gave CENSORED behind a wheel chair ramp and CENSORED. Sorry, my mom could read this. *grin*

Tamara: What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why?

I like both. A heroine can be both a damsel in distress and a kick-ass girl, at times. As a matter a fact, I’d say Victoria from A Dragon’s Heart, A Demon’s Blood is kind of like that.

Beverly: What was your worst date ever?

Puff, I’ll admit to not dating much, but I guess the worst date ever was the time I agreed to meet a guy I’d met online and had been emailing for some time. We concurred that we’d each bring a friend to make things safer and more comfortable (I was barely 18 at the time), but at the last moment, the friend that was coming with me bailed out. Regardless of that, I went alone but it was awkward because he was with his friend and I was just…there.

Tamara:If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you? (you have food, water, shelter, all the necessities, so nothing mundane)

I guess I can’t have a laptop so… my notebook, plenty of pens, and maybe Chris Hemsworth or Christian Bale or Leonardo DiCaprio or Ville Valo or Jared Leto… any of them to keep me company.

Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”?

White chocolate

Tamara: What dream or goal have you yet to realize?

As a writer, I dream of making billions of dollars with a bestselling novel. On a personal level, I’m hoping to find Mr. Right at some point.

Beverly: What was your most embarrassing moment?

Well, I’ve had several, but the first thing that comes to mind is what happened to me the other day in the subway. I was reading my kindle with my mp3 and headphones on, minding my own business. However, I kept hearing this really loud music coming from somewhere in the wagon. It was really annoying because it was interfering with my reading and what I was listening to. I kept surreptitiously glancing around trying to find the person that had decided not to use headphones and share their music with everyone on the train. I was almost to my stop, (it’s a ten minute ride), when I realized that the music was coming from my Kindle! All of a sudden, I understood why the lady in front of me kept glaring in my direction throughout the ride. The worst of it was that I became so nervous that I couldn’t turn off the darn thing! Up to date I still have no idea why the Kindle music player started working. I have, however, reread the instructions on how to turn it off.

Tamara: If you were a color what would you be and why?

Black. It’s my favorite color, I dress in it a lot and because the dark side of things are always much more fun. *grin*

Beverly:Who has influenced how you perceive love? Why?

I think I was just naturally wired like a hopeless romantic because the women in my family don’t seem to be very lucky in love.

Tamara and Beverly:Okay. We are SSLY so I have to ask. Who loves you?

At the moment, besides my family and friends, no one. I’m a single lady.

Now for some quick fun questions:

Boxers or briefs? Boxerbriefs, you know, that combination that is neither one nor the other.

Coffee or Tea? Coffee, coffee, coffee! Please? (Is it obvious I haven’t had my dose yet?)

Tall, dark and handsome or Blond and buff? Tall, dark and handsome. Though I have to ask, can’t he be tall,

blonde and handsome? You know, Viking like? *wink*

Hairy chest or smooth? Smooth or smattering

Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate

Kinky or Sweet? Depends on the moment

Fast or slow? Again, depends on the moment, but I’ll go with fast

Public or private? Private

Top or bottom? Both!

Thank you so much for having me at SSLY!

He is a shadow in the dark, smelling your scent and sensing your fear…

Legendary bounty hunter Adrian Ormonde is no ordinary man. His life is filled with secrets and questions, blood and lust. His only concern for 150 years has been survival and discovering the truth behind his demon-dragon nature.
Until he meets his new assignment: Victoria Green.

Victoria Green has felt eyes watching her every move ever since she can remember. Then, Adrian appears. The eyes vanish but new dangers arise as she falls for the mysterious hunter. Cast into an ancient conflict between dragons and demons, Victoria must trust Adrian’s skill to be enough to protect her from both the outside world and that which grows within her.

Chance brought them together but will love and passion be enough to keep them joined? Or will the other forces at play in the dragon-demon worlds destroy them forever?

Glimpsing at the tent in his jeans, she gasped.

In an instant, he was upon her, his mouth devouring hers and making her legs weak.

“You make me lose control, sweetheart, and I’ll be damned if that hasn’t happened in years.”

His hands slid down her waist over her hip and onto her thigh. Her breath hitched as she searched Adrian’s dark eyes.

“Already, you ask?” He sneered, his calloused fingers rising higher and caressing the junction between her legs. His fingertips skimmed over her labia, finding her wet entrance. His grin became smug. Adrian’s nostrils flared and his eyes flashed red as he dipped two fingers inside her, wringing out a breath she’d not been aware of holding.

“You’re already wet for me, sweetheart.”

Bringing his lips down to her, he stole another short kiss that had her whimpering against him.

She hugged him, bringing him closer and searching for his warm touch again. His eyes scanned her face, his gaze softening.

“You don’t want this, sweetheart.”

“Yes, yes I do,” she replied pushing herself against his hand. His thumb brushed over her clit. Victoria tensed.

Her orgasm hung from a cliff, ready to fall.

“I do want it.”

Tangling her fingers in his hair, she pulled him to her mouth, teasing the seams with her tongue. He groaned and she tasted him with longing. Sucking on his tongue, she made love to it as he pleasured her with his fingers. Her body became a mass of over-sensitized sparks as he coordinated his thumb with his seesawing digits. His hand on her waist, held her in place as she humped against him.

“Come on, sweetheart.”

His husky baritone triggered her release. Victoria cried out, her pussy convulsing in short waves, hot liquid dripping onto Adrian’s fingers. Her towel fell to a heap on the floor as she lost control, the cool breeze doing little to soothe her heated skin. She wanted more. She wanted all of him.

Victoria moved to embrace him but he stepped away from her. Drawing his fingers into his mouth, he briefly closed his eyes emitting a barely audible sound of pleasure. When he opened them again, she gasped. Red sparks danced in his green depths.

“No, Victoria. You don’t want this.”

Shaking his head, he turned around and strode out of the room. Victoria stood rooted to the spot, watching in shock as he left the apartment, the main door slamming shut. Tears dampened her vision. Picking up the t-shirt he’d given her, she put it on. More tears trailed down her cheeks as the smell of detergent mingled with his scent. Taking a deep breath, she hastily brushed them away.

“Get a grip, Vicky.”

Wrapping the discarded towel around her wet hair, she strode to the kitchen, her stomach growling. She didn’t think she’d find anything edible in the small kitchen, but luckily Adrian kept a box of cereal and a few cartons of unopened milk. Digging into the meal, she shivered slightly as an unsettling feeling grew in her chest. The watchful eyes were back.
