Welcome to the Secret Cravings Contemporary Blog hop! Lots of wonderful authors are participating, all with prizes to give away!

What makes a romance “contemporary”? Does that just mean that it is taking place in the present day and time? The dictionary says:

con·tem·po·rar·y
[kuhn-tem-puh-rer-ee] Show IPA adjective, noun, plural con·tem·po·rar·ies.
adjective
1.existing, occurring, or living at the same time; belonging to the same time: Newton’s discovery of the calculus was contemporary with that of Leibniz.
2.of about the same age or date: a Georgian table with a contemporary wig stand.
3.of the present time; modern: a lecture on the contemporary novel.
noun
4.a person belonging to the same time or period with another or others.
5.a person of the same age as another.

Contemporary romance novels combine a lot of these elements. They take place in the present. They are often about characters we feel are “contemporaries”. But I think they also need to be relevant to issues that we find “contemporary”.

It great romance novel will draw you into the story. Allow you to make parallels to your own life, or the life of someone you know. Are you a single mother? A widow? A young person looking for the one person to be your soul mate?

I hope when you read my books you find a little bit of yourself in them. There is definitely a little bit of ME in all my stories.

My latest release, Roping Love

  1. Love the sound of this book 😉 I hope you have a great hop. I love watching the arrival of all the nirds that summer in the UK and marvel that such small creatures can and will travels so many thousands of miles to nest and breed.

  2. I’m looking forward to this title as well. And hey, you ever wondered…we write contemporary now, but with technology changing so quick, twenty years from now, our books may feel historical. LOL

  3. And what I like about contemporary…the heroines are (sometimes) modern-day tough. They match up to their male counterparts and I love that. I’m Tara, by the way.

  4. I love contemporary books because they take place in the present times and area easier to follow for me

  5. I love contemporary romances because the heroines are more relatable and the heroes are what I wish real guys were like. 😉

  6. I like that there are more dual point of views in contemporary romance and that the females can be strong too.

  7. I like contemporary because I can better imagine what is going on because I am living in this time period. I have read historicals where I had to look up words of objects to find out what they are or look like, takes away from the enjoyment.
