Book Spotlight/Interview- War’s Passion – Lia Davis

LiaDavis2Beverly and Tamara: Welcome to SSLY. Thanks so much for joining us today. So first why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?

Lia: Hello. It is so great to be here. I’m a mother, a wife, and I’m living my dream.

Tamara: What do you HAVE to have when you are writing?

Lia: I don’t need any type of object or anything. If no is home I can write with ease. When my son and husband are home I have my head phones on.

Beverly: When did you start to write, who influenced you?

Lia: I’ve always enjoyed writing stuff. I wrote a play with a friend in Jr high. But it was about 4 years ago when I started reading paranormal romance and decided to give it a try.

Tamara: Whatdo you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”?

Lia: compassion, strength, and protectiveness

Beverly: Can you describe your favorite character?   And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters?

Lia: I don’t really have a favorite character. I love each of them and the time I spend with them. When I start a story or series, the personality just comes to me and I pick names based on it. Then the rest just flows.

Tamara: What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense? Sex? Dialogue? And why?

Lia: The love scenes. They aren’t particularly hard for me to write. I usually save them for last. When I write the first draft, I just get the main story down and then layer in the rest.

Beverly: What is your favorite scene in your favorite book?

Lia: There are too many to name.

Tamara: Who would you choose as your “book boyfriend/girlfriend”? From what book? Author?

Lia: That would Rhage from JR Ward’s BDB series. He’s hot and can change into a dragon.

Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done?  Or would like to? What?  We are all about the love!

Lia: I love helping people out when in need. I make it a point to do at least one positive thing everyday.

Tamara: What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why?

Lia: I love all kinds. However, she would have to grow and become stronger in some way as the story develops.

Beverly: What was your worst date ever?

Lia: The date that never happen. It was my birthday and the ex-husband spent our extra cash on a bottle of liquor. And I’ll leave it at that. He’s an ex for a reason.

Tamara: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you? (You have food, water, shelter, all the necessities, so nothing mundane)

Lia: Books, my Hubby, and my kitties

Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”?

Lia: Red wine

Tamara: What dream or goals have you yet to realize?

Lia: I’m not sure. I’ve always wanted to work for myself and do something I love. I’m living that right now.

Beverly: What was your most embarrassing moment or the craziest thing you’ve done? C’mon dish!

Lia: I’m an introvert. Most things in public embarrass me. LOL

Tamara: If you were a color what would you be and why?

Lia: Purple. I love purple.

Beverly: How do you know you’re in love?

Lia: Things just click. It’s hard to explain. You just know.

Tamara and Beverly: Okay. We are SSLY so we have to ask. Who loves you?

Lia: The man who is my best friend, soul mate, and the love of my life.

War’s Passion, Sons of War book 1

By Lia Davis

Excerpt:

She had to force her feet in place and shove her hands in her pocket before the man noticed her shaking. Gods, she was such a baby. Years of therapy and she still wasn’t over the fear of dragons jumping out of the walls.

As if he sensed her mood shift, Ty turned his head toward her and pressed his lips into a hard thin line. “I’m going to check the upstairs.”

Seth touched her arm and she jumped. “Hey, you okay?”

Nodding, she forced a smile and met his gaze. “Yes. It’s just…never mind. It’s nothing.”

The tension in her muscles eased when he didn’t press her for the answers she wouldn’t give a stranger. Hell, she had a hard time telling Elle at first and the two of them had their own special…gifts. She motioned him to the kitchen. “You said Ty was one of your brothers. How many do you have?”

Seth laughed. “Four, counting Ty. We live in the large house just south of here.”

Gwen stopped and studied him. “You mean the castle on the cliff?”

“Yep. Although it’s not really a castle. Too small. Where are you from?”

Too small for a castle? What exactly did he think was ‘big’?

Her stomach tightened at his question, but she tamped it down. He was just trying to be friendly. “Florida originally, but we moved to Nebraska about fourteen years ago.”

In the kitchen, he opened one of the windows and inspected the frame. “What made you decide to come to Maine?”

Nerves fluttering, she rolled the outer seam to her jeans between her thumb and index finger. Where the hell was Elle?  “I don’t know, really. I love the ocean and the coast of Maine looked beautiful in pictures.” A soft laughed escaped her. It probably seemed a little odd to just move to an unknown place based on Internet photos. However, she couldn’t tell him she was running from a monster.

If he noticed anything amiss in her behavior, Seth didn’t comment. “So what do you think so far?”

“It’s more beautiful in person.” And it really was.

Seth nodded and walked out of the kitchen in quick, long strides. Gwen had to almost jog to catch up with him. When she reached the living room, the front door opened and Elle came in with her arms full of bags. Gwen rushed over to take a few, but Seth beat her to it and took all the bags. Meeting her sister’s gaze and holding in a smile at Elle’s raised brows, she could tell by Elle’s expression they were thinking the same thing. Big, strong, and handsome. Hello, Maine.

“Oh, thanks.” Elle took off her large floppy hat and studied Seth for a long moment before she extended her hand. “I’m Elle.”

Seth smiled and gave a short nod. “I’m Seth. We spoke on the phone last night.”

At her sister’s forced smile, real fear froze Gwen’s blood. A shadow passed over Elle and her dark brown eyes shimmered slightly. Something was wrong. “Elle?”

Shifting her gaze to Gwen, Elle relaxed and shook her head. “It’s fine. I’m fine. The sun peeked through the clouds a couple of times and I feel a little off, but I’m fine.” Shifting her gaze back to Seth, she motioned to the kitchen. “You can set the bags down in here.”

No you’re not. However, Gwen wasn’t going to cause a scene in front of their new neighbors and contractors so she kept quiet and followed them to the kitchen. She’d just have to wait until they left to freak out on her sister.
