Nanny State ~ Interview ~ Giselle Renarde

giselle renarde avatarBeverly and Tamara: Welcome to SSLY Giselle. Thanks so much for joining us today. So first why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?

Giselle: I’m here, I’m queer, and I’m refreshingly Canadian.

Tamara: LOL. What do you HAVE to have when you are writing?

Giselle: Coffee. Does everybody say that? They probably do. I have no brain without coffee.

Tamara: Only those addicted like us! *handing cup to Giselle*

Beverly: When did you start to write, who influenced you?

Giselle: I wrote stories when I was a kid, and I even had teachers who predicted I’d grow up to be a writer, but I didn’t believe them. After age 10 or so, I stopped writing fiction and didn’t pick it up again until I was in my twenties. A friend dared me to write some erotica and try to get it published, so I gave it a shot. That was in 2006. Now I write for a living—I chose poor and happy over comfortable and miserable.

Tamara: What do you think are the qualities that make up a “hero”?

Giselle: I’ll level with you–I have no effing clue. I’m too queer to understand what appeals to the majority of straight female romance readers. Admitting that you don’t know what your customer wants goes totally against the grain of smart marketing, but I’ve always been self-destructively honest. Anyway, the readers who most enjoy my work have an appreciation of everything queer and kinky—particularly lesbian, bisexual and transgender fiction. My characters probably won’t meet the expectations of standard romance readers. I’m not afraid to admit that.

Beverly: Hey! Nothing wrong with that! There are all types of people, why not all types of romance? I read everything. Can you describe your favorite character? And which of your books is he/she in? How do you come up with your characters?

Giselle: I don’t really come up with characters—they just inhabit my brain for a while. Vanessa has lingered there longer than anyone else, though. She’s a character from Wedding Heat, a series of novelettes centered around Maggie and Ed’s wedding weekend at a luxury woodland resort. Each installment in the series involves different characters (friends, family, coworkers, even resort employees) hooking up, falling in love, or falling in love all over again. My girl Vanessa is Maggie’s cousin. She’s a rude, crude, tattooed dyke and she wants everyone to know it. She probably makes appearances in more Wedding Heat ebooks than any other character, even if she’s just passing through someone else’s story.

Tamara: What are the hardest scenes for you to write? Suspense? Sex? Dialogue? And why?

Giselle: There’s no one type of scene I find harder to write than any other. It’s more mood-dependent. If I’m in the mood to write some hardcore smut, but what I NEED to write is a tame family drama scene, that’s when I get antsy.

Beverly: What is your favorite scene in your favorite book?

Giselle: Hmm… not sure I have a favorite book. The first scene that comes to mind is from Tess of the D’Urbervilles, where she’s working in the fields and her baby dies. How’s that for random and heartbreaking?

Tamara: Who would you choose as your “book boyfriend/girlfriend”? From what book? Author?

Giselle: Enid from the graphic novel “Ghost World” by Daniel Clowes… although that’s kind of a cop-out answer, because I’m going on Thora Birche’s performance in the film role. It’s a fanciful answer, too, because I’m not sure I could realistically maintain a relationship with an eighteen-year-old, no matter how hilarious and artsy she is.

Tamara: Oh yeah, they can definitely have their moments!

Beverly: What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? Or would like to? What? We are all about the love! *snickering*

Giselle: I won’t lie. I HAVE peed on a girl. More than once.

Beverly: Finally! Someone that answers honestly! LOL! *muttering under her breath* You’d think we had angels on here.

Tamara: *ignoring Beverly* What are your favorite types of heroines? Do you like the damsel in distress who needs saving or the kick-ass variety? Why?

Giselle: Human. I don’t think anyone is totally damsel-in-distress or totally kick-ass. We’re all fumbling and bumbling and sometimes stupid, sometimes heroic. I don’t even care if a character is relatable. I just want her to be REAL.

Beverly: What was your worst date ever?

Giselle: I don’t feel like I’ve ever actually been on a date. I always seem to get involved with friends or coworkers… people I already know. I’ve definitely never been on a getting-to-know-you date.

Tamara: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you? (You have food, water, shelter, all the necessities, so nothing mundane)

Giselle: Wow, I’ve got a well-stocked desert island! Three things… I’d want a pet, some music, and a never-ending story (Ah-ah-aah…ah-ah-aah…ah-ah-aah).

Beverly: What is your “guilty pleasure”?

Giselle: Britcoms.

Tamara: What dream or goals have you yet to realize?

Giselle: All of them.

Beverly: What was your most embarrassing moment or the craziest thing you’ve done? C’mon dish!

Giselle: I know there have been a lot, but I must have blocked most of them out. One time a girlfriend and I had a big, stupid argument at a sushi restaurant and I sat outside crying so hard the dessert delivery guy tried to give me a cake. That was pretty humiliating.

Tamara: If you were a color what would you be and why?

Giselle: I’d probably be clear because I tend to be more transparent than most and I’ve always wanted to be invisible.

Beverly: How do you know you’re in love?

Giselle: I turn into an idiot.

Tamara and Beverly: *laughing and nodding* Okay. We are SSLY so we have to ask. Who loves you?

Giselle: My mom.

Now for some quick fun questions:

Boxers or briefs?
Giselle: Wait… what?
Coffee or Tea?
Giselle: Coffee, then tea.
Tall, dark and handsome or Blond and buff?
Giselle: None of the above.
Hairy chest or smooth?
Giselle: Uhh…
Tamara: *whispering* Bev you gave out the wrong questions again!
Beverly: *snickering* But it’s so much fun!
Chocolate or Vanilla?
Giselle: Mango would be great.
Kinky or Sweet?
Giselle: Kinky doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Fast or slow?
Giselle: Actually, I’m just going to get some sleep.
Public or private?
Giselle: Pervert.
Beverly:*turns to Tamara and whispering* You think she means us?
Top or bottom?
Giselle: Top AND bottom.

*Laughing* Thank you so much for joining us today Giselle! Let’s now take a look at Nanny State.

by Giselle Renarde

When Summer moves in with her mother’s friend, she expects to be treated like an adult. Fat chance! Victoria exerts control over every aspect of her life, protectively setting parental controls on the television and demanding Summer come straight home after her university classes.

Everything changes the day Victoria catches Summer watching some very kinky lesbian porn. The landlady soon becomes the ‘Nanny’, coaxing Summer into the big bed for play time.

The unlikely couple embarks upon a series of naughty adventures, from suckling to discipline to diapers. But what happens when Summer wants to include a girl her own age? Will Nanny punish the wayward girl or accept another charge into their uncommon household?

Warnings: This title contains graphic descriptions of lesbian sex and threesomes, age play, spankings, discipline, domination, and other fetish activities that may be considered objectionable to some readers.

Excerpt:

“Bend over, girls.”

Not only did Kira bend over, she flipped her skirt up over her bum and slid her cotton panties down to her ankles. With her flawless bottom exposed, she kneeled on the couch cushion and leaned against the back, silently awaiting her punishment.

“Summer,” Nanny said, her voice hard and unforgiving. “Why can’t you be a little more like Kira?”

“Sorry, Nanny.”

Stealing my gaze away from Kira’s gorgeous ass, I pushed my bottoms and panties to the floor and stepped out of them, assuming the same position on the couch.

Nanny Victoria stepped in close to my bare behind, and then seemed to change her mind and approached Kira instead. “I’m trying to decide, girls, whom to spank first.”

“Please spank me first, Nanny.” There was a begging quality to Kira’s voice that gave me butterflies low down in my belly. “It was more my fault than Summer’s. I dawdled all the way home.”

That wasn’t true in the least. If anyone had dawdled it was me. I wondered where Kira learned to be so beautifully submissive. She was way better at it than I was, and that realization made me more jealous than I cared to admit.

“Did you hear that, Summer?” Nanny’s gaze burned a hole in my back, but I didn’t turn around. Maybe I should have, because when she brought that wooden spoon down on my ass, boy, I was not expecting it!
