Rise of the Dragons

The apocalypse has come. 

Dragons awaken to once again reign over the skies.

Dax and Jasima explore and try to save what they can of mankind.

 

Their children’s future depends on it.

 

This is the prequel for a Dragon’s Fated Heart series.

Excerpt:

His hatchlings stirred; the rumbles of the volcano they nested in making the ground thrum. One hatchling, Ari, stirred, blinking one sleepy eye. He was usually the leader of his siblings. He sniffed the light breeze. The movement of the molten lava through the cave warmed the air. The occasional spitting of the lava brought heat, but no harm. He looked around curiously.

“Shhh, my ciglets, go back to sleep.” Jasima’s soft voice brought a smile to Dax’s face. Ari grumbled, but laid his head back down. Her humming soothed not only their children, but Dax also. She insisted on calling them her ciglets, even though they were all fully grown. Dax snickered. The term made their boys scowl whenever she used it. Despite their groans, Dax refused to chide her about the term. She could call them anything she wanted. Jasima was his world and he could refuse her nothing. They would learn, once they found their own mates.

Jasima circled the nest, nuzzling and soothing their hatchlings. It had gotten too dangerous to be out in the world, dragons no longer able to fly freely. They retreated, seeking the heat the earth provided, and nested in a long forgotten volcano.

Another rumble rolled out, the ground shaking beneath his feet. His children snuggled together, the sounds lulling them back to sleep.

“Come, let us explore.” Dax rubbed his neck with Jasima’s, enjoying the soft scales against his. “Let’s see what is happening.” Dax hoped maybe this change would signal a new era for them, an era where dragons once again ruled the skies. His heart lightened. Maybe they would all be safe again.

Beverly Ovalle dabbled with writing on and off for years when her best friend finally dared her to submit a story to a writing contest.
