BLURB: Ignorance isn’t always bliss… Handsome and diligent Avrum Brenin should have died in the fire with his mother and older brother. Instead, he is saved by the powerful and wealthy immortal, Lord Henri. Placed under his care, Avrum shares in his world of endless splendors. He must do one thing in return—look after Haven, a human and Lord Henri’s newest rescue. The simple task proves to be more complicated than it seems. Haven is disobedient, ungrateful, and hostile, yet she is beautiful and mystifying at the same time. One night, when Avrum stumbles across Haven barely clothed and bound at the wrists, the world he has trusted in unravels before his eyes. He soon discovers that no one—from Lord Henri and Haven to his closest friend, Lysander—are who they seem to be. Now faced with the truth, will Avrum choose to surrender to the man who rescued him, or will he have the courage to save the woman who captivated him? EXCERPT: The moment his foot met the wood floors of the empty foyer, Avrum felt all the muscles ease in his shoulders. He was home again, safe. From the thunderous sounds of music and laughter echoing throughout the manor walls, he knew the party was still at its peak. Haven came to his side, her hair clinging to her cheeks and forehead. His heart froze behind his ribs. Even disheveled and soaked, she was beautiful. His eyes fell to the swell of her breasts, where water droplets glistened in the foyer’s gold light. Little bumps rose all over her skin from the cold. Avrum’s feet moved toward her without his permission. The closer he got, the stronger her smell was. He recognized the scents now. Lilacs and rain. It seemed to seep out of her pores, a sweet perfume. Haven stared at him with wide eyes. Avrum could hear thumping in his ears. Her heart was calling out to him, her blood singing as it pumped through her veins. His own sped up to match―faster and faster until his vision became sharper and he felt his incisors pressing against his lip. He watched the blue lifelines underneath her pale skin, watched them pumping blood to make a blush appear on her high cheeks. Haven stepped back, but her back met the wine-colored wall. Her mouth opened to speak but no words emerged. He wanted to kiss those lips. Taste her. Press her slender body against his own. Avrum put his hands against the wall on either side of her head. He leaned into her. She was soft against him, and when he looked down into her face, he was amazed to see her blue eyes looking at him with the same heat and need. But when Haven tilted her chin up to him, a different scent hit his nose. Henri. Avrum ripped himself away from her and stumbled back. What was he doing? He shook his head clear. If he had allowed his desire to take over, who knew how far he would have taken it? He could have ripped her throat open, drained her, killed her. His stomach twisted with hunger. Like Henri had told him when he had been changed, he was not a monster. He had to control his primal instincts. He still had a heart. He could still feel. And love― He wouldn’t betray his lord. He had brought Haven here to give her another chance at life and that didn’t involve him. She was human. It was the craving that drew him to her. That was all.

Character Interview: Introduce yourself. What book are you from? Are you the hero, heroine, villain? Absolutely. I apologize for not introducing myself sooner. I am Avrum Brenin. Don’t feel guilty for not knowing my name. My family were stable hands, not of importance. My and Miss Haven’s story can be found in the book, His Haven. I suppose I’m the hero of the story, although I don’t deserve the title. I was a fool for most of it because of my ignorance… I won’t give away too much more. You’ll have to read. How did you come to your author’s attention? We were lucky. Miss Brooks has a real appreciation and love for our time. Throw in the supernatural element of Lord Henri’s collected vampires, and she was more than excited to write our story. Did you give your author a hard time when she was writing your story? I hope I wasn’t a bother to her. Miss Brooks never said so. I can tell you for sure, though, that Miss Haven was more difficult. Miss Brooks admitted to me that she prefers to write from male perspectives. I wish she followed Haven more. Her story is more inspiring. What do you do for a living? Now, I look after the other vampires Lord Henri gathered at Greystone Manor. I was Henri’s second-in-command for a short time, and before that, I worked on my family’s farm…before the fire. Who is the love of your life? Miss Haven might scold me for saying this, but I’ve known it since I saw her come down the stairs during the party… I can’t deny it. I love her. I’d do anything for her. After I discovered the truth about her presence at Greystone and how my actions worsened it, I swore to do anything and everything I could to protect her. To save her. And I will continue to uphold that promise for the rest of my immortal life. I just hope she can forgive me for my past mistakes… What was the first thing you noticed about her? That night of Henri’s party—she was radiant. I couldn’t look away. There was no “first” thing I noticed. I don’t know how else to describe it except that I saw all of her at once. And then again and again in my thoughts every second following. She was beyond beautiful—the most exquisite, fragile, and incredibly human thing I’d ever seen. What’s your greatest fear? Having her harmed in some way. She had come so close to harm before, many times. It kills me to think about it all again. I had come too close to losing her… I won’t let it happen again. What’s your motto in life? I believe whole-heartedly in the tag-line Miss Brooks chose for the book. Ignorance isn’t always bliss… I fell into the blinding trap ignorance, and there isn’t a moment that goes by that I don’t regret it. Ignorance caused me and the ones I love a lot of pain. How do the other characters in your book view you? For some time, my friend, Lysander, thought I was a fool, too. He humored me. I hope he is safe wherever he is…wherever he ran off to. I don’t think I want to know what Lord Henri thought of me. Whether he really did think me deserving of his second-in-command title or if he used my ignorance to his full advantage, it’s impossible to know. What do you think readers will find interesting about you? I hope it is the arc of my character that interests readers. Miss Brooks explains that I’m not like typical “romance heroes.” My story starts in ignorance but transforms into one of strength, love, and courage. Readers get to see my metamorphosis into a “hero,” but I wasn’t born that way. What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done? This is a bold question! I don’t normally share these types of things, but I believe Miss Brooks mentioned some of my more intimate moments with Haven in the book. We did share time together. I won’t tell you much more than this—attic, wall, and nightgown. You’ll have to read to find out the in between. Will we be seeing you in future books? I cannot say for sure. I know the next story tells of Lysander, wherever he may be. I think Miss Brooks plans on mentioning me and Haven, but the second book in the series follows my friend. What makes you happy? Memories of my older brother and mother before the fire, when I was human and the days were long and hard but the nights where cool and calm. I dream about them a lot when I sleep, but I’ll never get to see them or the sunshine again. Holding on to the happier times makes it easier. I also enjoy sword fighting. I practice still based on what Lysander taught me. It’s challenging, but I’ve gotten quite good at it. What makes you mad? Thoughts of Haven’s time here—in the beginning. I’ve mention this before, so I won’t too much again, but still, to this day, it infuriates me to know what was done to her and what I hadn’t done to save her. If only I had opened my eyes earlier.
