It’s a Western Romance Blog Hop! What makes a Romance a Western Romance? Stetson, Colts and Wranglers? Horses, cattle or sheep? A western setting, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado?
One of the Facebook groups I belong to, defines Western Romance as having Rural elements. That seems like a rather broad description, but to me it one of the most accurate.
My books are classified as Western Romance, but most of them don’t take place in the West. The Circle R Ranch series takes place in Kentucky and Tennessee. The Ryan brothers do own a ranch, but only one of them, Chase, runs it.
I think books that focus on small towns in rural area, whether the central characters are farmers, ranchers, loggers, or store owners classify as Western Romance to me. It’s something about the feel of small towns and the camaraderie that living in those communities brings, that draws me to this genre.
I live in a VERY small town in Tennessee, only 1700 people and not even one stoplight grace our town. I LOVE it here. We moved to McEwen in 2006 and it was like moving to another world. We had only been here a few weeks, and had frequented the local market, Andy’s, a few times. The owners had learned our names, and chatted with us whenever we stopped in for coffee. (They also made homemade breakfast with biscuits and gravy! yum)
The phrase Southern Hospitality is not over used. The people here are friendly, warm and caring. They always ask about “Your momma an them.” They sit on their front porch and drink sweet tea or beer in the evening and always have one to share. If you need a barn raised or help bringing in a crop, someone will be there to lend a hand in a New York minute.
That’s what I love about Western Romance, the sense of community, and family.
A divorced school teacher, estranged from her family, wants to start over. Sharon Daily moves to Gaines, Wyoming with her ten year old autistic son, Aaron. She hoped to find kindness and acceptance in this small town. She wasn’t looking for love…
Tanner West, the Fire Chief of Gaines, seems to have it all. Great job, loving family, and any woman he wants to warm his bed at night. But, Tanner has suffered too. A Native American in a white world, he longs to find love and acceptance. He is ready for more than someone to share his bed. He wants someone to share his life. And Sharon really lights his fire.
Making a life with Sharon will require A Special Kind of Love.
