Blurb:
When she’s sent to a crime scene and finds her second dead woman in as many weeks, half-banshee detective Kiera “Mac” McLoughlin is convinced a serial killer is on the loose. Incubi are extinct, her boss insists. But what else can kill a woman in the throes of pleasure? When her partner is murdered after using witchcraft to locate the killer and Mac is thrown off the case, her frustration turns to desperation.

Certain the killer is an incubus, Mac works behind her department’s back to chase down slim, sometimes perilous leads. While the killer eludes her, she does discover handsome Aidan Byrne, an investigative counterpart from the enigmatic Otherworlder Enforcement Agency. Mac typically runs her investigations fast and hard, but with Aidan at her side, she’s running this one “hot” as well. But Aidan knows more than he’s letting on–something that could shatter their blazing romance and add Mac to the killer’s growing body count…

Cara’s Review:
The paranormal world takes a practical approach to the ever increasing technology of our world, and revealed their presence to the world. They are policed on a local level, as well as a national level: think local police agents and the FBI. Of course, there is the normal amount of prejudice and hate between not only the paranormals but also with the humans. Kiera “Mac” McLoughlin is an Officer in the “Freak” Division of the Police Squad, and investigating murders that are apparently being perpetrated by a species that went extinct almost 100 years ago, the incubi.

Kiera is a half-banshee Other, and when the case hits close to home, she is forced off the case. Aidan Byrne is an officer of the FBI equivalent for the Others. When they meet up, sparks fly, and a relationship is kindled.

I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this book….I enjoyed it overall, thought it was a great premise, and liked Kiera and Aidan. However, it felt sort of rushed to me, even though the story played out okay. I am interested to see if there are more books forthcoming, because I feel like there are lots of aspects to both characters that can be explored more in depth.

Overall, I would cautiously recommend this book. It is a quick read, a great premise, and delivers. However, be warned that you might feel things occur a bit abruptly, but with enough psychological factors involved that could explain the rationale behind the actions.
