Western Romance Blog Hop

It’s a Western Romance Blog Hop! What makes a Romance a Western Romance?  Stetson, Colts and Wranglers? Horses, cattle or sheep? A western setting, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado?

One of the Facebook groups I belong to, defines Western Romance as having Rural elements. That seems like a rather broad description, but to me it one of the most accurate.

My books are classified as Western Romance, but most of them don’t take place in the West. The Circle R Ranch series takes place in Kentucky and Tennessee. The Ryan brothers do own a ranch, but only one of them, Chase, runs it.

I think  books that focus on small towns in rural area, whether the central characters are farmers, ranchers, loggers, or store owners classify as Western Romance to me. It’s something about the feel of small towns and the camaraderie that living in those communities brings, that draws me to this genre.

I live in a VERY small town in Tennessee, only 1700 people and not even one stoplight grace our town. I LOVE it here. We moved to McEwen in 2006 and it was like moving to another world. We had only been here a few weeks, and had frequented the local market, Andy’s, a few times. The owners had learned our names, and chatted with us whenever we stopped in for coffee. (They also made homemade breakfast with biscuits and gravy! yum)

The phrase Southern Hospitality is not over used. The people here are friendly, warm and caring. They always ask about “Your momma an them.”  They sit on their front porch and drink sweet tea or beer in the evening and always have one to share. If you need a barn raised or help bringing in a crop, someone will be there to lend a hand in a New York minute.

That’s what I love about Western Romance, the sense of community, and family.

  1. What do you like about western romance? I think the people are more down to earth, caring, sharing, giving, doing people. They love the land, they work hard and sometimes even love harder!

  2. I enjoy Western romances because the characters are down-to-earth and have real concerns. They don’t care about the latest fashions or who has the newest smart phone with the most apps. They have families and neighbors, and they care about each other. When all that is set in a gorgeous landscape, you’ve got a story I’ll adore.

  3. I love western romances, they are my favorite type of read. I just love me some cowboys. They are hard workers and alway polite to women. My day was always into westerns so maybe that is where I get it from. I was raise in the country and just like the country life and I miss it now. Since I am from KY I love reading books set here.

  4. im gonna be thinking about reading more westerns and cowboys lately! I dont read many and might have to rething that stance! thanks for the chances! 🙂

  5. Life is so much simpler and uncomplicated. You worked hard and took care of family. They make for a nice “get away”. 🙂

  6. I think that the cowboy is the original gentleman. It is a trait that still exists today and is sought after by many modern day females. Escaping into one of these books is a great way to experience that.
