Cara’s Review
This is a hard review to write, because I’m not honestly sure how much I like this book. I’ve been thinking about it for the past 24 hours since I’ve finished it. This is the first book in a new series, and I think I will enjoy the novels more and more….however, all this novel did was raise huge question marks in my mind, with very little resolution. I know that is the whole point of a cliff hanger, but it was almost as though this book should have been written as a prequel- the back story after the series had been developed.
Does that mean I didn’t like the book? No, on the contrary, the book was an enjoyable read- filled with action, misunderstandings, and some good loving scenes. However, you literally have no idea (or at least I don’t) where the story is going to go- who are the “bad guys,” if Penny hold some sort of secret, etc. I will definitely be reading the second book, mostly of piqued curiosity- I want to know what the heck is going on.
Anyway, to the story. Mikhail and Gareth spent their 48 leave ten years ago falling in love with Daisy Choe. They both thought they were unable to have kids (vasectomies, I think), so you can imagine their surprise when Honey turns up at their door ten years later claiming to be their child. Daisy has raised Honey in such a manner that she knows both men are her Daddy, and seems incredibly blasé about the whole two dads’ thing. All three adults are bundles of doubt, but still hold on to their love from all their years ago. So, here’s three people with very different upbringings, emotional responses, and world views, attempting to make something work that isn’t generally acceptable in society. I honestly am excited to see where the next book takes us.
